, in a baffling result, has made it into the Top 12 of this season's American Idol
. I'm not an Idol historian; this is my first full year watching the show. However, I feel confident in saying that Sanjaya will be the worst singer to ever make it into an American Idol
top 12. Before we go on, I want to say that my intentions are not malicious towards Sanjaya. I actually feel bad for him. Unless he's completely delusional (which, I suppose, is possible), it must be heart-wrenching to perform every week when you know that you are, by far, the worst singer that will hit the stage that night.
And this isn't just one person's opinion. I bet if you asked one million musicians and music experts about who was the worst male singer on American Idol
these past few episodes, one million of them would say Sanjaya.
Why is this happening? Why is anyone voting for Sanjaya? I could understand it if he were the reverse Antonella
, but I really can't imagine that Sanjaya is going to inspire adulation from the ladies. Please, comment below if I'm wrong, but his looks can't be the reason for the votes he is getting. The only thing I can think of is that it has to do with his ethnicity.
I'm going to call it the Yao Ming Phenomenon. Yao Ming is always the NBA's leading vote-getter for the All-Star game, and it is widely understood that this is because his Chinese countrymen vote for him with unbridled exuberance. I'm thinking that the Indian population is really getting behind their boy Sanjaya and inflating his votes. Am I insane? Is that possible?
The problem is, there is really no other reason for Sanjaya still being around. It's not like Sanjaya is charismatic. He's pretty awkward on stage, and his interviews don't make him an endearing figure.
The real tragedy in this is that Sundance Head
was eliminated tonight. Sundance had, inarguably, the best voice of any male contestant and was just coming into his own. The fact that someone who could've possibly won American Idol is going home in favor of Sanjaya, who doesn't have a fraction of the talent Sundance has, is a clear indication that something is seriously wrong.
