The
2012 Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held Saturday night to honor the
technical side of television. The big winner was HBO's fantasy epic
Game of Thrones which won six awards, followed by
Saturday Night Live with four.
The most prominent awards at the ceremony are the guest acting honors. For Drama, they went to Jeremy Davies from
Justified and Martha Plimpton from
The Good Wife. For Comedy, Jimmy Fallon won for hosting
Saturday Night Live while Kathy Bates won for playing the ghost of Charlie on
Two and a Half Men.
With six Emmys,
Game of Thrones more than surpassed its freshman season, which only won two awards. It won for Art Direction, Costumes, Make-Up, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.
The Masterpiece miniseries
Great Expectations and the Discovery Channel's nature documentary
Frozen Planet each picked up four awards.
Saturday Night Live also earned four Emmys, including one for host Jimmy Fallon. This brings the long-running variety series' Emmy total to 36, one away from
Frasier's record of 37 wins for a series.
Other notable wins included NBC's
Smash taking home the Choreography Emmy (beating
So You Think You Can Dance and
Dancing with the Stars) while the popular Adult Swim series
Children's Hospital won an Emmy for special class programming.
For the first time, the Emmy for Reality Host is being moved to the primetime ceremony, so we'll have to wait a week to see if Cat Deeley or Ryan Seacrest can beat Betty White.
The remaining Emmys will be handed out live Sunday, September 23 at 8pm ET, 5pm PT on ABC. You can watch an edited telecast of the Creative Arts Emmys Saturday, September 22 on ReelzChannel.
