Biography

Live in Color is a dance crew from Miami, Florida.  It was founded by Zedric Bembry way back in 1989.  The group has seven crew members.  Their dancing skills have brought them to various places.  They were invited to perform at Showtime at the Apollo, halftime shows at the Miami Heat and at a hip-hop fest in San Franciso.  In 2008, they were also featured as one of the 3 urban dance companies in Black Expressions: Hip-hop Festival in Washington, Columbia.  Their dance style is a fusion of urban funk, hip-hop, jazz and African dance.

Theodore Brown

Theodore “Daynjah” Brown hails from Miami, Florida.  This 24-year-old man started his dancing career as early as 7-years-old.  He trained under the crew’s founder and leader, Zedric Bembry.  Brown studied fire academics at Miami College and attended Emergency Medical Technical School.  He gave up being a firefighter to pursue his passion.  He earns a living as a hip-hop instructor for studies called Dancers, Gallery, Peaches, School of Dance and Dance Town.  His idols in the industry are Zedric Bembry, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Brian Friedman, Tucker Barklay, Tight Eyes and Lil C.  As a dancer, he is aware of the importance of staying humble.  He also emphasizes that performers must be strong and must learn to take criticisms as these are all fundamental in becoming a professional.

Bruce Williams

Bruce “Maniac” Williams is a 21-year-old from Opa Locka, Carol City.  He started dancing at the age of 10 by performing for a show at the Cultural Arts Center.  He currently works as hip-hop instructor at Peaches School of Dance.  His class caters to all ages.  When not dancing, he finds time to enjoy other thing he loves to do like skating and playing the piano.  He looks up to Brian Friedman, Wade Robinson, Mia Michaels and Shane Sparks.  Movies and videos are sources of inspiration for him because they are very entertaining to watch.  He relates this to himself, saying that it’s what he intends to do, to entertain.

Trillanie Brown

Trillanie “The Phoenix” Brown is a 23-year-old from Miami, Florida.  Her dancing career started when she was just five years old.  She was already a member of Live in Color by that time and she hasn’t let go of dancing since then.  She graduated as valedictorian from high school and was a scholar at the University of South Florida, where she took up Physical Therapy.  Brown is a certified firefighter/EMT and also plans to take up paramedic studies.  She currently works at Boston Culinary Group and is also hired as an assistant at a tax office.  Her other interests are singing, acting, playing the trumpet, running track, cooking and sewing.  Brown admires Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and Chris Brown.  Her source of inspiration is the support she gets from family and friends.

Bianca Brewton

Eighteen-year-old Bianca “Got It” Brewton is from Miami, Florida.  She started dancing at the age of five when her mother enrolled her in Edward Holland School of Dance.  She was trained in modern, ballet, jazz and tap dance.  Shortly after, she frequented Cultural Arts Center and met dance teachers Zedric Bembry, Shannon Haynes and Tracie Young.  Brewton is currently enrolled at Miami-Dade College, majoring in dance and nursing.  Aside from dancing, her other favorite activity is swimming.  She looks up to Misha Gabriel, Blake McGrath, Troy Powell, Judith Jamison, Tucker Burkley and Brian Freeman.  Her family gives her the inspiration she needs to continue with her dancing career.

Calvit Hodge

Calvit “Dark Vayda” Hodge was born in US Virgin Islands, St. Thomas but was raised in Miami, Florida.  This 23-year-old started dancing when he was just a kid.  He found his way into Live In Color through his cousin Wynette.  He attended Emergency Medical Technician School, and is currently a dance instructor at Dancer’s Gallery and Dancing Plus.  Aside from teaching all over South Florida, he also performs for Subway commercials.  He has also appeared on music videos of rapper Trina and recording artist Trick Daddy.  His number one idol is Zedric Keith Membry, the creator of “Urban Funk!” style.  He also admires Brian Freedman, Marty Kudlelka, Misha Gabriel, Nick de Moura and Tucker Barkley.  He gets his inspiration from his love for dancing and from his daughter.  Hodge considers music as the best drug and therapy.

Cass Smith

Twenty-three-year-old Cass “T.Ranchula” Smith comes from Miami, Florida.  He started dancing at the age of 11 by taking classes at a community center.  He was with friend and group founder Zedric Bembry from then on.  Smith is thankful for Bembry’s help in making him become what he is today.  Aside from dancing, he also enjoys singing.  All his friends, Mia Michaels and Brian Friedman are his dancing idols.  His source of inspiration comes from God.  Smith believes that He is the sole reason why people have the strength to do the things they do.  His dream is to be able to travel the world and make lots of money simply by doing what he loves to do.  He also hopes to be the named as the world’s best dancing chef in the future.

Terry Shakelford II

Terry “Transformer” Shakelford II started his dancing career when he auditioned and became part of FAMU Strikers, the dance group of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.  Being on the group gave him his first experience of performing on stage in a professional atmosphere.  This 24-year-old was born in Kansas City, Kansas but now resides in Miami, Florida.  He is currently attending Florida International University and is taking up Music Education.  Shakelford earns a living by working at Interactive Response Technologies, a customer service for T-Mobile.  His other talents are singing, playing music and acting.  Asked on who his dancing idols are, he says that he looks up to each member of his crew.  Every time they rehearse, he feels that he’s being surrounded by exceptional dancers and he learns a lot from them.  He gets his inspiration from seeing other dancers on TV, who are doing what they love and making a living out of it.  They serve as a push for him to work harder and accomplish the same thing.

Live In Color is a finalist for MTV’s 2008 reality talent search Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew; where hip-hop dance groups from all over US compete for the prize money and for the opportunity to be given a touring contract.
