There’s a lot of positive buzz surrounding the newest cast member of NCIS. As reported previously, Jennifer Esposito has been added as a series regular for season 14, playing the role of NCIS Special Agent Alexandra “Alex” Quinn. Unlike other cast additions, however, Esposito’s arrival seems to be a welcome change for solid fans of the CBS hit series. While there are still fans who refuse to accept any casting changes stemming from the huge void left by “Very Special” Agent Tony DiNozzo, most fans are eager to have Esposito on board for one particularly good reason.

Wilmer Valderrama Joins NCIS Season 14 as a Series Regular>>>

Esposito is no stranger cop procedural shows. In 2010, she joined the cast of the CBS drama Blue Bloods as Detective Jackie Curatola, the partner of Detective Danny Reagan (played by Donnie Wahlberg). Her character Jackie, who was divorced and was often the recipient of ogling from her colleagues, appeared on the show from seasons one to three. She was loyal, tough, the perfect partner for Danny and arguably the most interesting character on the show that wasn’t one of the Reagans. She was adored by fans and, when she took early retirement from the NYPD to “think over some things,” she was greatly missed. And the fact that no one has ever come close to taking over as Danny’s partner despite several potential replacements speaks volumes of the kind of energy and portrayal we can expect from Esposito.

It’s too soon to tell whether Esposito’s new character Alex is anything like Jackie but based on her description (“sharp wit, quick mind and immense talent as a federal agent”) it’s very likely that Esposito’s new role on NCIS will once again fit her like a glove.

But what do you think? Will Esposito be a good addition to the team? Find out what fans are saying about the casting here!

NCIS returns to CBS on September 19.
