The Internet can be a dangerous place, and Criminal Minds might make you reconsider all those selfies and hashtags this week with the appropriately titled “Hashtag.” Yes, the CBS drama is once again twisting something so normal and part of every day life.

The BAU searches for an UnSub taking on the persona of an Internet urban legend when victims with large social media followings are found dead. (So if you’re a bit disappointed about that low follower count, maybe it’s a good thing.) Meanwhile, Rochelle Aytes returns as Savannah as she and Morgan struggle to find quality time for each other with their busy jobs.

Watch the “Hashtag” promo:

This UnSub is getting his list of victims from the Internet, and as you can see, after he kills, he stages a selfie. Hotch suggests that they could be looking for a teenager, but whoever’s out there killing isn’t showing any mercy. One victim begs for his life, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to do him any good. You may never look at hashtags and retweets the same way again.

Check out an extended scene from this Criminal Minds episode:

“Don’t people understand the dangers of putting their lives out there like that for everyone to see?” Kate wonders. Selfies are “all the rage,” as Garcia puts it, and while Morgan suggests that this first victim could just be a one-off and it’s personal for the UnSub, it’s likely just a matter of time before this goes viral.

If it’s on TV — especially if it’s a procedural or superhero show — chances are Meredith watches it. She has a love for all things fiction, starting from a young age with ER and The X-Files on the small screen and the Nancy Drew books. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse and her true passion for all things heroes. She’s enjoyed getting into the minds of serial killers since Criminal Minds, so it should be no surprise that her latest obsession is Prodigal Son.
