The second-to-last episode of the season will set up everything for the True Blood season 3 finale. Eric’s plan for revenge against Russell reaches a boiling point, Jason tries to understand Crystal’s secret and Sam continues to fall off the wagon in a big way.

Here’s the official description for the penultimate True Blood of season 3, “Fresh Blood.”

“Bill tries to earn back Sookie’s trust, but ends up bringing her face-to-face with fresh dangers. Knowing he’s no physical match for the King, Eric tempts Russell with the “ultimate vampire dream.” Jason tries to wrap his head around Crystal’s revelation. Sam embraces his dark side, alienating everyone except Tara. Hoyt and Jessica take their romance to the next level; with Holly’s help, Arlene puts her future in the hands of a goddess; post V-trip, Lafayette struggles with new demons.”

HBO also has three video clips from the episode. First, Eric does his best Inigo Montoya impersonation while confronting Russell. Second, Jason tries to wrap his pea-sized brain around the existence of werepanthers (it’s like a werewolf, only with a panther). And finally, Sam is quickly going to a very bad place with his drinking. I can only assume this is leading to something big for Sam in the finale.

Now comes the hard part. After this episode, True Blood is taking a week off for the Labor Day weekend, so the season 3 finale won’t air until Sunday, September 12.
