In this time of no new Vampire Diaries episodes, we must turn to whatever comfort we can find. And what greater comfort is there than Vampire Diaries spoilers? Keep reading to find out the identities of some characters returning soon to Mystic Falls.

Meet the Parents
Have you ever wondered about the dearly departed Gilbert parents? Hope so, because it looks like we’re going to get a chance to meet them in an upcoming episode.

According to a report from E!Online, The Vampire Diaries is casting the roles of Grayson and Miranda Gilbert, the parents who died when their car fell off the Wickery Bridge. Them being long-dead and all, it’s safe to assume that the appearance will require either a) a flashback or b) ghosts.

On The Vampire Diaries, both options seem likely.

There is some evidence to point to the flashback scenario. The actors being cast as the Gilberts will need to be willing to take scuba lessons for filming an underwater scene. Will we be seeing Stefan’s rescue of Elena while her parents drowned?

Grayson and Miranda were not, of course, Elena’s biological parents. That honor belonged to the also-departed John Gilbert and his teenage girlfriend, Isobel Flemming (later the wife of one Alaric Saltzman, even later a vampire). Elena was then adopted by the Gilberts right after her birth with the adoption kept a secret until after the parents died.

Returning Characters
If you’ve been watching The Vampire Diaries with any attention at all, you may have noticed that a couple of characters have been MIA. Will Jeremy Gilbert and Tyler Lockwood return to the show this spring?

Yep.

Tyler hasn’t gone too far — emotionally that is, no clue about physically — from his Mystic Falls life, so it’s fair to guess that we might see him return first. But things won’t be going so great for the hybrid upon his return. Not when Klaus is busy flirting with Caroline.

The Vampire Diaries executive producer, Julie Plec, explained the situation to TVLine. “There’s nothing worse than going away and putting yourself through endless and eternal agony to break a bond to some guy, and then when you come back to town, you realize he’s been putting the moves on your girl,” Plec said. “I can’t imagine that’s going to go over well.”

TVLine also reported that Caroline would hold fast to her devotion to Tyler, even in the face of Klaus’ wooing. Of course, this devotion will be tested — at the Mystic Falls High School “decade dance” in episode 20.

As for Jeremy, there isn’t much on the young man’s return from Colorado. E!Online reports that Jeremy will indeed return to The Vampire Diaries at some point this spring. As to the exact date and the reasons behind the return, however, there is no information.

The next new episode of The Vampire Diaries, “1912,” will air on Thursday, March 15 at 8pm on The CW.
