Jericho fans can breathe another sigh of relief; the rescheduling of the show to mid-season will not result in a delayed release of the DVD box set.  DVD industry watchdog TvShowsonDvd announced that the Jericho first season DVD set has been bumped out slightly – from September 25th to October 2nd – but nowhere near the time frame common for mid-season shows (December.)

By contrast, now that LOST has become a Mid-Season show its box-set will be released December 11th.  Such decisions usually are made in the interest of promoting the show with soundbites chronicling the DVD sales.  In that regard, while Jericho fans may not have to wait for their box set, the timing could deprive Jericho of the halo of hype should the set become a big seller.

On the other hand, the early release gives potential new viewers time to become fully indoctrinated to the show.  While it is possible that Jericho may return earlier than the rest of the mid-season crop, depending on how CBS’s new shows hold up, assuming it premiers in January, the October 5th release will give plenty of time to get caught up on the saga of Jericho.

There is no info yet on what the set will contain for extras but expect the requisite bundle of deleted scenes, making of, cast and crew commentary, and, if we’re lucky, a blooper reel or two.  So far all the studio has given is the following show description.

JERICHO is a drama about what happens when a nuclear mushroom cloud suddenly appears on the horizon, plunging the residents of a small, peaceful Kansas town into chaos, leaving them completely isolated and wondering if they’re the only Americans left alive. But in this time of crisis, as sensible people become paranoid, personal agendas take over and well-kept secrets threaten to be revealed, some people will find an inner strength they never knew they had and the most unlikely heroes will emerge.
