Landman season 2 slows down to hit like a hammer in Episode 4, “Dancing Rainbows,” as Tommy Norris faces the past he has avoided for decades and T.L. steps toward the son he abandoned. The hour doubles as a character clinic for Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliott and sets up the fallout that will carry into next week’s chapter. New episodes stream Sundays on Paramount+.

Back in Canadian, Texas, the funeral for Tommy’s mother, Dottie, brings the Norris family — and plenty of baggage — to one table. After the service, Ariana asks why everyone is so tense. Tommy answers with a confession that rewrites everything: “I remember coming home from school and finding her naked, face down in the bathtub. I was 14 years old.” He describes dragging his addicted mother out, performing CPR, and the moment that snapped him in two: “Then she got up and walked into the kitchen and made herself another f——— drink… ’[I’ve] never been back in this town since — ’til a week ago.’”

The reveal rocks Ainsley, and father and daughter share a rare moment of grace. Tommy tells her, “I had a sister, and she died from SIDS at 4 months old,” explaining how grief “broke” Dottie. He also admits, “My poor father, he was scared to death of her.” Ainsley’s tears meet a quiet compliment: “You’ve got a big ’ole heart beating under that hood, baby.”

At the same lunch, T.L. absorbs the damage he helped cause by disappearing to offshore rigs. By the end of the episode, Angela convinces Tommy to let T.L. move in — a fragile first step toward reconciliation.

Elsewhere, M‑Tex lawyer Rebecca Falcone survives a harrowing flight and wakes up hungover next to a charming rig hand named Charlie. Cami Miller visits Monty Miller’s grave, sells off assets, and pursues cash from Danny “Gallino” Morrell. Jerrell Teague’s exposure to a toxic gas cloud leaves his eyesight in doubt.

The masterclass: Thornton and Elliott

Sam Elliott, 81, calls T.L. “a fractured man” who “checked out,” and adds that much of this season is about “healing that relationship.” Working opposite Thornton is, in his words, “a treat… we’re in deep… It’s special.” The result on screen is a bruising exchange of silence, regret, and — finally — responsibility.
