When Ghost Whisperer returns for a fourth season this coming fall, fans will see less of Jay Mohr, who has been with the thriller drama series as Professor Rick Payne since the beginning of season 2. That’s because the 37-year-old actor will soon be departing Ghost Whisperer to star in his own show, Project Gary, an upcoming sitcom where he plays a father who is struggling with life after divorce.
Nevertheless, producers of Ghost Whisperer have already found a substitute to fill the void. According to The Hollywood Reporter, comedian Jamie Kennedy has signed on to appear in the CBS drama as a regular cast member.
As a performer of stand-up comedy, Kennedy is best known for his sketch performances on his television reality show, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment. He has most recently appeared on TV series such as Reaper and Criminal Minds.
On Ghost Whisperer, Kennedy will be playing a character named Eli, a grad student in psychology who forms a bond with lead character Melinda Gordon, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt. Mohr, on the other hand, is still expected to appear in the first couple of episodes of season 4 as his character will soon go on sabbatical.
Aside from Ghost Whisperer, Kennedy has several upcoming acting gigs lined up for the year. He’ll be starring in the comedy Spring Break ’83, which is about four friends who are bullied by their graduating high school class but find revenge against the now freshman college students while on spring break during 1983. The movie also includes Joe Pantoliano, Ricky Ullman, and Lee Majors.
Last but not the least, Kennedy will star in Finding Bliss, a comedy that features an aspiring filmmaker (Leelee Sobieski) who takes a job at a porn studio in an attempt to use the company’s lush facilities to secretly film her own movie after-hours.
