When How I Met Your Mother returns with new episodes, we will finally get a glimpse of Robin Scherbatsky’s (Cobie Smulders) new gig as a daytime host at Channel 12, thanks to Barney’s (Neil Patrick Harris) awesome video resume which ultimately landed Robin the job.  Robin’s workplace has never really fallen short of good comedy and odd antics so I’m excited to see what’s in store for her.  But whether or not her new occupation is better than her old job still remains to be seen.  Unfortunately, fans suffering from severe How I Met Your Mother withdrawal will still have to endure a couple more days of waiting before CBS airs the highly anticipated episode, “The Stinsons.”  In the meantime, I’ve gathered some of Robin’s most memorable coverage as a reporter for minor cable news channel, Metro News 1.

During her stint at Metro News 1, Robin never really saw herself as a “genuine” reporter despite the fact that she worked her way up, from telling dumb “fluff news pieces” at the end of news segments to serving as the head news anchor.  Still, Robin’s career gave her friends, as well viewers, a lot to laugh about.

Below is a list of stories Robin has covered on Metro News 1:

  • Monkey can play the ukulele; a man made the world’s biggest pancake and ate it too
  • Some crazy guy who’s about to jump on the Manhattan bridge
  • A kid stuck inside a crane machine trying to get a purple giraffe
  • New York City’s oldest Hansom cab driver
  • Pickles the singing dog
  • New York’s cutest dog
  • Molar bear, also known as the panda that got his first tooth
  • A furricane, also known as tropical storm Hector
  • Is your favorite brand of dental floss poisoning your entire family?
  • Is your local ice cream man driving a roving meth lab on wheels?
  • Is your baby trying to kill you?

While Metro News 1’s pieces were embarrassing enough, Robin has also subjected herself to Barney’s dares out of boredom and in exchange for money.  For her first dare, she was a bit hesitant but eventually acted upon it when a Freudian slip caused her to say the word “nipple” when she meant to say the word “nickel.”  Subsequently, she said “I’m a dirty, dirty girl,” at the end of a news story and spanked herself.  Upon realizing that no one, not even her boss, watches Metro News 1, she decided that she might as well perform the dares and has since honked her own breasts during a report, and accidentally stepped out of the buggy and fell into a pile of horse droppings.

Without a doubt, Robin has had a colorful stint at Metro News 1.  And although it’s depressing to see Robin sucking it up, it’s also hard to picture Robin working elsewhere.  After all, there are not a lot of jobs that can make Robin refer to herself as the bogeyman with the teleprompter.

Favorite Robin Quotes on How I Met Your Mother:

“Ted, I’m Canadian – I don’t need a coat. This kind of weather does nothing for me.”

“You should have seen some of the other women auditioning. They’re all more experienced and more ethnic than me. There was a black woman with green eyes. I can’t compete with that!”

“I never thought this would be a bad thing, but my wardrobe just isn’t slutty enough.”

“I like sports cars, but I don’t want to push a Ferrari through my vagina.”
