With the return of Tyra Banks as host, America’s Next Top Model fans will have a little bit of the familiar in the recent VH1 reboot. Tyra won’t be keeping things exactly the same, however. Deadline reports that via a video update on her Twitter account, Tyra made a big announcement about the next cycle of America’s Next Top Model. The age limit, which has been with the show since the beginning, is now gone.

America’s Next Top Model Renewed for Cycle 24, Tyra Banks Returns as Host>>> Since the very first cycle of America’s Next Top Model, whether the contestants were male, female or a mixture of both, all of them have shared one thing. They have all been 27 years old or younger. Now that has changed.

In a Twitter post, which contained information about how to apply, Tyra explained that age is no longer a factor on America’s Next Top Model. “There have been 23 cycles of America’s Next Top Model, and every single cycle we say you have to be 27 years old or younger,” Tyra said. “You know what I hear all the time? ‘Tyra, come on! Why have an age limit?’ So, you know what? I’m taking that age limit off. You want to audition for America’s Next Top Model? I don’t care how old you are, honey. You just need to know how to smize and be open to learning how to work the runway like a supermodel.”

While this should open up the field of the contestants considerably, it does appear that the next season of America’s Next Top Model is sticking to the reboot’s all-female format. People of any age can apply to America’s Next Top Model as long as they are a woman. At least that appears to be the case for now as neither Tyra nor anyone else has confirmed something to the contrary. It’s a move that some viewers might find disappointing but the age limit being removed should promise a fresh and exciting take on the reboot.

But what do you think? Are you excited to see models over the age of 27? Do you think there will be many models over the age of 27 applying? Should America’s Next Top Model bring back the male models to the competition? How excited are you for Tyra’s return?
