The America’s Got Talent Season 20 Live Shows continued on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, with a night packed full of standout performances and high stakes. The evening featured the return of fan-favorite acts and a mix of fresh talent, but the spotlight shone brightest on Jessica Sanchez, a singer with a remarkable history on the show, and Micah Palace, the latest contestant to secure a coveted Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell.
Jessica Sanchez Returns to AGT 2025
Sanchez, who first appeared on the AGT stage as a 10-year-old in Season 1, returned this season under unique circumstances. Now 29 years old and eight months pregnant, the Chula Vista, California native had already secured her place in the Live Shows thanks to Sofia Vergara’s Golden Buzzer during the auditions. Despite not feeling well before taking the stage, pregnant singer Jessica Sanchez performs on America’s Got Talent with a stirring rendition of Alex Warren’s “Ordinary.”
Simon Cowell praised her resilience and talent, admitting he had given her the option to bow out. After her performance, he remarked, “You have such an amazing tone. Not only that, you have this amazing… glow about you.” Vergara, her Golden Buzzer sponsor, applauded Sanchez’s perseverance, while Mel B declared, “You have never sounded better!” Howie Mandel added comic relief, joking, “When you hit those big notes, I was worried this production was going to turn into a reproduction.”
Who Got the Golden Buzzer?
While Sanchez’s performance won over the audience and judges, she did not receive the Live Show Golden Buzzer, which would have guaranteed her a spot in the finale. Both Vergara and Mel B had already used theirs earlier in the season, leaving Cowell and Mandel with the final two. It was Cowell who ultimately pressed his buzzer — for 24-year-old rapper Micah Palace from Connecticut.
Palace, who went viral during auditions with his original song “No Sabo” (amassing over 50 million views across platforms), returned with a new performance blending his passion for soccer and music. His dream of creating a soccer anthem resonated with Cowell, who described the track as “such a clever song” and even suggested it could serve as a World Cup anthem. After Cowell asked, “What color is the World Cup?” and Palace answered, “It’s a gold cup,” Cowell slammed the Golden Buzzer, sending Palace straight to the Season 20 finale.
Other Performances of the Night
The night also included strong showings from juggling duo the Messoudi Brothers (returning from Season 14), as well as crossbow shooter Anna Saranina, singer Austin Brown, vocal group Benn Family Band, freestyle rapper Chris Turner, rock band Girish & the Chronicles, aerial duo Jacqueline & Wagner, dancer Maceo Harrison, and A.I. magician Mastermind.
What’s Next on America’s Got Talent
America’s votes will decide which acts advance, with results set to be revealed on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. With Jessica Sanchez overcoming extraordinary odds and Micah Palace earning Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer, the competition has only intensified as the road to the finale narrows.
