'Viva Hollywood' Paves Way for More Latin Content on VH1

May 18, 2008

Viva Hollywood is making quite an impression as the first Latin-themed show on music channel VH1.  While some consider the show as racy with lots of bare-chested hunks and bikini-clad women, others deem the show as deliciously over-the-top.  The show, which follows Latino hopefuls as they attempt to win a contract with the biggest telenovela production company in the United States, presently stands out because it reflects an increasingly culturally diverse American mainstream and manages to attract viewers who aren't Latin, as well as those who aren't really into soaps.

Last week on Viva Hollywood, the remaining contestants had to do a “crying game” in which they must burst into tears with a sad personal tale in a span of three minutes.  The winner, Silvia, opted to trade in her partner, Geovannie, with Berto.  To help the contestants come in touch with their feelings, the group went to an institute where they were hypnotized to experience past life regressions.  In the challenge, the group pretended to be victims of ridiculous problems and appear on a talk show with journalist, Maria Celeste, who invites them to share their sob story on the couch, Oprah-style.  Jenn and Giovannie won the challenge, and in the end, Vinci was eliminated.

Viva Hollywood: Preview of Tonight's Episode

April 20, 2008

In the premiere episode of Viva Hollywood, 12 aspiring Latino actors were placed in a house called the Casa de Locos and were forced to compete in a series of challenges
for the coveted title and a Hollywood prize package that includes a contract with Telemundo, the biggest telenovela production company in the United States.  They were paired off and each got different scenes.  Overall, Roseny Carrero was considered the best so she received immunity, a free makeover and even had a chance to meet a famous Latin actor.  Janet Michel , on the other hand, didn't do so well so she was put into the duel.  The rest of the contestants decided to put up Jainmy Martinez against Janet and in the end, Jainmy was sent home.
