The much hyped-about remake of the '90s icon 90210 apparently got a lashing from the ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager during the latter's midseason finale on Tuesday night. Throughout its 11-week run, the final episode of controversial series attracted some 4.5 million viewers – a series high in several key demographics and ABC Family's most-watched original series telecast in history. 3.2 million tuned in to 90210's premiere.
The network behind The Secret Life of the American Teenager claims that it outperformed CW's trendy series Gossip Girl. It likewise edged out the highly anticipated return of 90210 by some double-digit percentages. The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which returns in January 9 with 12 new episodes, stars Shailene Woodley in the role as a goody-goody teenager who gets pregnant at band camp.

Fans who are disappointed to hear that their favorite teen drama is going to end tonight with its freshman season finale mustn’t worry. The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which successfully debuted in July with very impressive ratings, was renewed almost as soon as it aired for a couple of weeks. In fact, we previously reported in mid-July that ABC Family was happy to announce that they have renewed the series for another 13-episode long season, which will be aired early next year.
Tonight, though, fans will catch a glimpse of the end of season 1, titled “Just Say No.” The episode will see the disappearance of Adrian (Francia Raisa) from the school, which sparks a nasty rumor about her. Her father calls the police, while Grace (Megan Park) receives multiple warnings about Ricky (Daren Kagasoff). Amy (Shailene Woodley) and Ben (Kenny Bauman), on the other hand, will be deciding what’s next for their relationship.

Beginning August 13, fans of the Secret Life will have the option of viewing the teen drama online. They can even schedule viewing parties and chat about while watching the show in real-time. Teaming up with Lycos Cinema, ABC Family aims to keep the show fresh, it said.

After receiving flak from conservatives, now it has drawn criticism from the other side of the moral fence: those who oppose pro-life stance on reproductive health, who condemn the show for its depiction of suburban sex.
