The Secret Life of the American Teenager‘s July 1 premiere became ABC Family‘s most watched series, with 2.8 million viewers tuning in.  The teenage pregnancy drama follows Amy Juergens, played by Shailene Woodley, a goody two shoes high school freshman, who gets impregnated after her first sexual encounter with the school stud while at band camp.Conceived by 7th Heaven creator Brenda Hampton, The Secret Life of the American Teenager was also the highest rated premiere among key demographics, particularly adults 18 to 49, trailing only to Kyle XY in total number of viewers. Read more »
Juno sure was memorable.  The Ellen Page movie was like a sentimental favorite to win last year‘s Oscars.  Although it didn‘t happen, the film about teenage pregnancy raised awareness about the alarming rise in the trend, statistics wise.  But Juno has been out of the theaters for some time now and for an issue as crucial as something that can wreck lives instantly, maybe the American audience needs constant reminder.For its part, the premiere of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, the ABC Family drama that tackles the topic head on, broke records by becoming the network‘s most watched series, attracting 2.8 million viewers and, of special attention, to the 18 - 49 demographics. Read more »
She is best known for being the curvaceous and almost enigmatic mom of Steve Stifler (Seann William Scott) in the American Pie series, but Jennifer Coolidge is more than just a hot mama.  Zap2it reports that Coolidge, who is also famous for being Elle Woods‘ manicurist friend in Legally Blonde, is appearing as guest on the so-far historic ABC Family drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and is reportedly there for comedic relief, among other reasons.  Coolidge will supposedly make the appearance on the show‘s 9th episode.On the other hand, creator Brenda Hampton, who was also behind 7th Heaven, eagerly ruled out any appearance by 7th Heaven alumni on the show.  Her reason?  Simple enough: there is a lot more teenage sex to come on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and the 7th Heaven people might not be up for it. Read more »

ABC Family once again gives life to its successful teenage drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager.  It was reported that the network‘s highest-rating show will be back for another season, despite its release being only a few weeks ago.  The cable channel stated that they have ordered 13 additional episodes of Brenda Hampton‘s promising new drama.It has been announced at the TCA panel that the total number of episodes for The Secret Life of the American Teenager will amount to 23.  One of the series‘ new segments will be added to the initial 10-episode run, and will conclude on September 9.  The rest of the 12 episodes will begin airing in January of next year, but no specific dates have been released. Read more »

Very recently, we reported that despite the positive hype that The Secret Life of the American Teenager has been getting, it has similarly received flak from critics for veering away from the real issue when it comes to teenage pregnancy.  Some say it just milks the issue of all its drama to make for a very interesting show, while others maintain that it has helped in opening up the topic so parents and their kids can discuss it with relative ease.In an interview, Shailene Woodley, who plays the teenager whose seemingly perfect teenage existence is ruined by a pregnancy test kit, said it is probably best to just look away when it comes to criticisms, be it with the way the show is running or her acting itself.  On the flip side, she said she just wants to focus on the “challenging” role she‘s playing. Read more »

Early last month, the most awaited summer awards show took place at the Gibson Ampitheater in Hollywood.  Several artists, actors and actresses were recognized and given a surfboard for garnering the most votes in their nomination category.  The winners for this year’s Teen Choice Awards include Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) for Choice TV Actor – Drama, and Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively for Choice TV Actress – Drama. Fans who are disappointed to hear that their favorite teen drama is going to end tonight with its freshman season finale mustn’t worry.  The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which successfully debuted in July with very impressive ratings, was renewed almost as soon as it aired for a couple of weeks.  In fact, we previously reported in mid-July that ABC Family was happy to announce that they have renewed the series for another 13-episode long season, which will be aired early next year.Tonight, though, fans will catch a glimpse of the end of season 1, titled “Just Say No.”  The episode will see the disappearance of Adrian (Francia Raisa) from the school, which sparks a nasty rumor about her.  Her father calls the police, while Grace (Megan Park) receives multiple warnings about Ricky (Daren Kagasoff).  Amy (Shailene Woodley) and Ben (Kenny Bauman), on the other hand, will be deciding what’s next for their relationship. Read more »

Fans expecting another season of The Secret Life of the American Teenager won‘t be disappointed. ABC Family has picked up the highest rated original series in the network‘s history this past summer for yet another season.  The sophomore season order, which was announced Monday by network vice president Kate Juergens, consists of 24 episodes that will tentatively return in the summer. The renewal follows ABC Family‘s recent orders of several series, including 10 Things I Hate About You, which is based on the theatrical of the same name, gymnast series Perfect 10, and comedy Ruby and the Rockits.  Additionally, the network has also ordered 20 and 10 episodes of Greek and Lincoln Heights respectively.  Both shows are expected to return in the summer as well. Read more »
