Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is coming back for its second season in the Fall. The series was thought to be in danger of cancellation, but FOX recently made the announcement that the series will be returning for its second season – unfortunately, not a whole lot of people watched the first season. You don't have to wait for the DVD or illegally download a large torrent file; FOX is going to re-air the first season at the end of the summer. In addition, FOX announced much of its summer schedule, and it gives a hint at what the FOX Fall schedule may look like.

Josh Friedman is a man who did the impossible. He made a TV version of a beloved film franchise that wasn't ripped to shreds by the franchise's fans. The first time show runner presided over the creatively successful first season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Ratings-wise, there were issues – the show didn't get the kind of numbers FOX would have liked. But, it was recently announced that FOX has picked up Terminator for a full second season. Friedman held a web-media only conference call today to discuss the pick-up and what we can expect from season 2 of Terminator.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been renewed for a second season. This is news that we've all been anticipating for some time now. It'd been reported weeks ago that the Terminator crew had been told to staff up by FOX, and all indications from the FOX executives pointed to a renewal. However, you can never be too sure with these things, and this seemingly final confirmation should finally put Terminator fans at ease. The source of this Terminator news comes from TV Guide's venerable Michael Ausiello, whose scooping abilities are incomparable in the TV world – he's rarely wrong. So, even though FOX itself has yet to confirm Terminator's renewal, there's about a 99.6% chance that it's true.

Typically, I'm pessimistic about stuff like this. My balancing act between pessimism and optimism has long been a source of both annoyance and disappointment, with hopeless optimism leading to heartbreak and unnecessary pessimism annoying anyone who witnesses it. This duality is no more apparent than with the renewal of television shows. I can never just throw my hands in the air and say “I don't know if this series will be renewed. It's 50/50.” Instead, I either blindly assume a show will be canceled or blindly assume a show will be renewed. In the case of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I've recently been making peace with the fact that it'd probably be canceled. However, it looks as if my assumptions were wrong. According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, it appears that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is gearing up for production on season 2.

At least it's something. Ever since the two-hour season one finale of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles aired, fans have been waiting for some news – Will The Sarah Connor Chronicles return for a second season? The series was well-received by critics and fans alike, though the ratings weren't eye-popping. However, given the amount of press and publicity FOX put into The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and how big the Terminator franchise is, you'd hope that they'd renew the series for at least one more season. Well, if we are to believe E! Online writer and gossip guru Kristin Veitch, then Terminator is indeed coming back to FOX next season.

Thanks to the writers' strike, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles reached its final destination serendipitously. With a stroke of luck, show creator Josh Friedman and cast of the sci-fi series was able to deliver the show's first season finale that left viewers with enough revelations and cliffhangers to leave them wanting for more.
While "Vick's Chip" and "What He Beheld," the eighth and ninth installment of the pilot season which aired on March 3, never intended to be the season finale by the makers of Terminator, it ended up being so due to the strike. The episodes saw Sarah, John, Cameron and Derek working together to disable Skynet's future surveillance network. It also featured Agent Ellison and a SWAT team attempting to take down the FBI impostor, Derek taking out John for his birthday, and as the series came to a close, Cameron's fate left unknown.

Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles has to be considered a creative success. The task that Josh Friedman and his team took on when adapting the Terminator franchise to television was a daunting one. Terminator is a beloved move franchise, one with rabid fans and a dense mythology. But, much to the surprise of all those expecting a train wreck (which seemed to be most people), The Sarah Connor Chronicles turned out to be a worthy entry into Terminator lore, adding new wrinkles to the Terminator story and fleshing out the films' characters. Tonight's finale, like the series itself, was at no times spectacular, but roundly satisfying nonetheless.
