Call me naïve, but I think Smallville’s Tess Mercer may actually be one of the good guys. The new CEO of LuthorCorp has all the makings of a villain, and most of the time she acts like one too. But reading between the lines, understanding her actions in the first three episodes, there’s a chance she’s not as evil as Smallville would like us to think she is.
In last night’s episode, we learned all about the backstory of Tess and Oliver, how they met on an island and grew closer while facing some very bad kidnappers. In some ways, this makes them the Jack and Kate of Smallville.

If this keeps up, Smallville is going to give me whiplash. The season 8 premiere was all about the Green Arrow, then he disappeared for episode 2, now he's back center stage for Smallville's third episode.
Chloe (Allison Mack) and Clark (Tom Welling) are helping the environment at a global warming party sponsored by Oliver Queen with half-naked waitresses. The two debate the merits of Tess Mercer and whether she's truly as evil as Lex or just another pretty girl.

Chloe Sullivan is one of the pluckiest, most likeable characters on Smallville, and as I found out when BuddyTV visited the set of Smallville, Chloe's portrayer, Allison Mack, is also adorable and likeable. The day we visited Metropolis, she actually had the day off, but agreed to come to the set for a few minutes anyway so that we could ask her some questions.
This season is a big one for both Chloe and Allison. The season will see a huge evolution in the character of Chloe, as she develops her superpower. We might be seeing Chloe use her power in tonight's episode after the Green Arrow gets injured.

Poor Aaron Ashmore. He has the misfortune of starring on a show that already has ridiculously hot male actors on it, like Tom Welling and Justin Hartley and, now, Sam Witwer. What is poor guy like Aaron supposed to do about it?
Well, actually, Aaron does pretty well. He plays the perennially good-natured Jimmy Olsen, whose aww-shucks personality is just so endearing. I've had the good fortune of being on set of Smallville with Tom Welling, and while Tom is definitely a very good-looking guy, Aaron seems more approachable and down-to-earth, which is just my type.

When the stellar ratings for the recent season premieres of Supernatural and Smallville came in, I wrote an article wondering why the CW doesn't develop more sci-fi and horror properties. The network has spent a lot of energy creating its image as the place to see rich teen girls backstab one another, but shows like 90210 and Gossip Girl don't get nearly the ratings that the typical episode of Smallville does.
Maybe the CW was listening to me. Variety is reporting that Smallville executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson are developing The Graysons, which will follow the world of a young Dick "DJ" Grayson before he takes on the role of Batman's sidekick, Robin. The show is seen as a potential replacement for Smallville if it ends its run this season, or as a companion to the series if it returns next year.

The new villains on Smallville may not live up to the standards set by Lex Luthor just yet, but I like the new dynamic they've added to the series. Tess Mercer is an ice cold businesswoman who may be putting together her own evil team of meteor freaks, while Davis Bloome is a heroic paramedic who isn't yet aware that he has a dark side. Both characters are bound to stir up plenty of trouble for Clark, but what's really exciting is that they'll be able to hurt him in ways Lex never could.
On this week's episode of Smallville, entitled "Toxic," Green Arrow suddenly falls ill and realizes he has less than 24 hours to live. Could one of the new villains be responsible? To get fans pumped for the episode, we have some photos and a clip from the new installment.

When the Smallville showrunners appeared at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, they revealed that they'd love to have Michael Rosenbaum back in season 8, but neglected to mention any possible plans for the actor to return to the show. There were rumors going around earlier in the year that he may return for up to 11 episodes, but those rumors never became reality. Now in a recent interview with Kristin at E!Online, executive producer Darren Swimmer has confirmed that Rosenbaum won't be appearing at all in season 8. Fans will have to make do with new villains Doomsday and Tess Mercer. Can they possibly take the place of Lex Luthor?

Chloe (Allison Mack) met a real man on last night's episode of Smallville in the form of paramedic Davis Bloom (Sam Witwer). There was an obvious connection between the two right away as Chloe marveled at the handsome man rescuing the victims of a bus bombing. After the smoke cleared, however, Chloe realized something: she's engaged to someone else.
It was only a matter of time before this happened. TV engagements always lead directly to a third party entering the picture and casting second thoughts. What makes Smallville different is that usually the fans will automatically root for the engaged couple to stay together. That is not the case with Jimmy and Chloe.
