'Private Practice' Showrunner Throws Support Behind Striking Writers

Shonda RhimesAs with its parent series, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice doesn't appear to be exempt from the repercussions and ripple effects of the ongoing strike being staged by the Writers Guild of America (WGA).  Yesterday, we reported on our Grey's Anatomy page that star Patrick Dempsey himself has expressed concern for both the consequences for the show, as well as its personnel.

If the writers' walkout endures for an extended period of time, Private Practice, like many other series, may be forced to go off the air or resort to reruns.  Despite such a grim possibility, Shonda Rhimes, its creator and executive producer, has decided to give her complete support to the writers' cause.

'Private Practice' Picked Up for Full Season

"Chris Lowell"With Private Practice's steadily impressive performance every week, the Grey's Anatomy spin-off has now been picked up as a full season.  ABC has been assured enough by the show's ratings thus far to greenlight additional installments for its maiden season.

The network had originally ordered just 13 episodes for the freshman series to see how it fares in its primetime Wednesday slot at 9pm, against the likes of the returning Criminal Minds and the debuting Bionic Woman.

On tonight's episode of Private Practice, Addison fights for a patient that no one else believes in.  Coop makes a deal with a boy to tell their crushes how they really feel.  Addison feels slighted when no one responds to an invitation she sent out.  Violet becomes obsessed when her ex's new woman comes into the clinic.

Addison accompanies Sam to his live television appearance, where he helped a man accept his baldness.  At work, everyone forgets that she was throwing a get together, except Dell.  Showing a softer side, Dell shows Addison Naomi's Wall of Miracles, a board full of pictures of babies that beat the odds.  A woman visits with Pete, concerned about her husband who falls asleep throughout the day for a few seconds at a time.

"Kate Walsh"Kate Walsh, who turned 40 last October 13, has been around the entertainment block for some time.  No stranger to television, she has appeared in over 40 shows throughout her acting career, but not until she came on board award-winning and consistent top-rating Grey's Anatomy did she emerge from virtual anonymity to stardom.

After three seasons, Walsh earned her own Grey's Anatomy spin-off series, Private Practice.  Now a recognizable name and face among media and television audiences, Walsh is soaring to new career heights as well as the bliss of a very recent marriage.
