Oz is a dramatic television series about prison life from HBO, and was HBO’s first ever hour-long TV drama, followed by the likes of
The Sopranos and
Six Feet Under . Created by Emmy Award-winning writer Tom Fontana and produced by Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson, the show revolves around the Oswald State Correctional Facility (hence the nickname ‘Oz’) and its wide variety of inmates. Especially prominent is the ‘Emerald City’ experimental block, where the prison unit manager focuses on forced rehabilitation for the prisoners.
