It has probably nothing to do with all the health care hullabaloo, but Nurse Jackie, which returned Monday for its sophomore season, snagged its highest ratings ever, reeling in 1.5 million viewers combined for the 10pm show and the 11pm encore. For a little perspective, the figures represent a 13 percent jump from its debut run‘s already respectable numbers.As for the show, while much has been said about the jarring jump from last season‘s cliffhanger to a seeming blank slate Monday, critics were most delighted, noting the Showtime series‘ usual methodically thought-out balancing act of the protagonist‘s heroic and wicked ways. Just days after earning strong sophomore premieres and rave reviews, Unites States of Tara and Nurse Jackie have been commissioned for a third season. Showtime made the official announcement today, adding that both series have been given 12 installments each and will go into production later this year. Read more »

The kids of Glee have something to sing about. The 2010 Emmy nominations were announced this morning and as expected, Glee led the pack with 19 nominations. The show had even more steam than expected, earning nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series plus acting nominations in all six categories (Matthew Morrison, LeaMichele, Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, Mike O‘Malley, Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth).See Complete List of Nominees>>The comedy side also saw newcomers Nurse Jackie and Modern Family crack the Comedy Series category. The Creative Arts Emmy Award were handed out Saturday night and HBO‘s 10-part World War II miniseries The Pacific was the big winner, picking up seven Emmys. However, the biggest winner of all may be Neil Patrick Harris, who won two awards for his guest performance on Glee and hosting the Tony Awards.
