Articles for New Girl Season 2

If "Re-Launch" and "Katie" are any indication, Season 2 of New Girl features a whole new Jess -- one who‘s strong, sexy, and even a little dark. Tuesday‘s double-episode season premiere shows that Jess is still quirky, sure, but she‘s shedding that "adorkable" brand from last fall, and frankly, I approve. Of course, she‘s edgier with good reason. In "Re-Launch," the elementary school teacher learns she‘s been laid off due to budget cuts. It‘s a grim slice of reality that must ring true to public school teachers. (Hello, Chicago teachers‘ strike!) Vice principal Tanya tries to lighten the mood by wearing a sombrero and offering parting gifts from the office "lost and found" (Jess chooses sunglasses and a tiny silver hat), but obviously, the news is devastating. Schmidt mutters "Obama" under his breath after Jess announces the layoff. The guys expect Jess to dissolve into tears, but surprisingly, she keeps calm, rationalizing, "It‘s just a job. I‘ll get a new one." She admonishes the guys for pitying her and demands that they "act normal" -- or normal for them, anyway. Read more »

New Girl has never been shy about tapping viewers‘ sense of nostalgia, and this week‘s episode is no exception. When "Neighbors" begins, we find Jess lounging on the couch, enjoying the ‘80s TV classic Mr. Belvedere. When the guys object to her slackerdom, she suggests they join in on the TGIF marathon, then starts showing off her Urkel, Alf and Frasier impressions, much to the disgust of her roommates. Schmidt condescends to Jess and demands to know what her plan is. She responds nonchalantly, claiming she‘s cool with her new part-time job at the Casserole Shanty -- although based on the uniform and the bean-heavy meals served, that clearly can‘t be true. It doesn‘t help when Schmidt brags about his professional status and his lost respect for the laid-off teacher. That kind of "help" could only push her deeper into the throes of Millennial aimlessness, which is exactly what happens when a quartet of 23-year-old hipsters knocks on the loft door. These are the new neighbors.  Read more »

So far, this season of New Girl has found Jess pouring shots, dancing on bars, scooping casserole and partying with hipsters, so why wouldn‘t she give modeling a shot? In the wake of her layoff, Jess is trying on all kinds of hats (and even Cece‘s Bond girl dresses) on the path to self-discovery. This week, she jumps on stage for Cece after jeopardizing her modeling job. More importantly, Jess and Cece examine their friendship, while Nick and Schmidt have a heart-to-heart about the rules of male bonding.  Read more »
What Halloween activity has the most romantic potential? Ahaunted house, of course! This week, the roommates wander through a Halloweenfestival looking for screams and sweethearts. When history looks back at the 2012-2013 TV season, it might be considered the year the sitcom died.
