'Monk' Returns with a New Therapist for Season 7

monkOn the heels of the death of Stanley Kamel, who played the cranky yet incredibly patient shrink Dr. Charles Kroger on Monk, the Emmy Award-winning police procedural dramedy will be enlisting a new therapist for Tony Shalhoub's obsessive compulsive character.

Joining Monk for season 7, which kicks off on July 18, is none other than Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated Hector Elizondo.  The 71-year-old actor has participated in over 80 movies, including Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, where he played the head of the queen's security service and eventual love interest to Julie Andrews's character.  On TV, he is credited for his roles as Dr. Phillip Watters on Chicago Hope, and most recently as Pancho Duque on Cane.

'Til Death' Actor to Appear on 'Monk'

brad garrettBrad Garrett has become a household name as one of the stars of the long-running sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond and his most recent show 'Til Death.  Now, the 48-year-old actor will be branching out to yet another comedy series.  This time, however, it comes with a touch of police procedural drama.

The ‘Til Death actor has just sign on to appear on Monk's upcoming seventh season, which is expected to premiere on July 18.  According to TV Guide, Garrett is set to play a handyman who helps Monk lead star Tony Shalhoub with his home renovations.

NBC Takes Out 'Monk' and 'Psych'

psychNBC has decided to pull out Sunday night repeats of Monk and Psych, television shows that are originally broadcast on the USA Network.  According to an updated schedule released by the network, the two shows will be replaced by a two-hour block of The Office, at least for the next two weekends.

The switch, which isn't that surprising given that both Monk and Psych didn't post good numbers, brings to a close NBC Universal's strike-era programming stunt of giving USA Network's top-rated series a shot on the broadcast network.

'Monk' Actor Stanley Kamel Dead at 65

Stanley Kamel, MonkActor Stanley Kamel, whose most prominent role was as Adrian Monk's psychiatrist on the USA comedy Monk, passed away yesterday at the age of 65. According to Access Hollywood, his agents found him in his California home, dead from a likely heart attack.

Though never a huge star, Kamel found steady work in Tv and movies for five decades. In all that time, it was his recent role as Monk's cranky yet incredibly patient shrink that gained him the most fame. Appearing in more than 40 episodes, starting with the shows pilot, Kamel's Dr. Charles Kroger was a staple of the show.

Monk, Psych to Make the Move from USA to NBC in March

NBC, the network in the worst shape going into the writers in regards to quantity of available original content, are bringing two of their cable series up to the big leagues.  USA, a member of the ever-expanding NBC Universal clan, will see both Monk and Psych move from the relative anonymity of basic cable to network television in March 2008.  The series will air on NBC Sunday nights.  Both Monk and Psych will be airing original episodes on USA beginning this January.  Those new episodes will the be re-purposed for NBC and re-aired on the mother network beginning in March. 

'Monk' Returns Tonight for a Holiday-Themed Episode

monkUSA's Monk may be on hiatus until January but that doesn't mean that the network can't give its fans a treat this holiday season.  Tonight, the Emmy Award-winning comedy drama will be airing a brand new episode entitled “Mr. Monk and the Man Who Shot Santa,” which is expected to deliver its usual brand of silly humor with a Christmas twist.

In “Mr. Monk and the Man Who Shot Santa,” Monk becomes a social pariah when he finds himself in a showdown with Santa Claus.  Comedy ensues as he attempts to foil for a larger criminal plot just in time for Christmas.
