Articles for Hot in Cleveland Season 1

Betty White imparts her unique charm and sense of humor on TV Land‘s newest comedy series entitled Hot in Cleveland, which premieres Wednesday, June 16. The Golden Girls star, who has won six Emmy Awards and received 18 Emmy nominations over the course of her career, stars as Elka Ostrovsky a sassy housekeeper trying to live harmoniously with three L.A. women, although, as expected, things aren‘t always smooth sailing under Elka‘s roof. Read more »
In the middle of what‘s been called her "career renaissance" -- Superbowl ads, her Saturday Night Live hosting gig and the Facebook campaign that led up to it, and now her new TV Land sitcom Hot In Cleveland -- Betty White still thinks of acting as "just a hobby." Just as dear to her heart is another hobby: her frequent visits to the Los Angeles zoo.ABC‘s Nightline joins White "on safari" through the zoo tonight to talk about her life, her passion for animals and her six decades as a beloved TV actress, from The Mary Tyler Moore Show to Golden Girls to Boston Legal. Just last week, White saw the last of her remaining Golden Girls co-stars, Rue McClanahan, pass away.Watch a sneak peek of the interview below, and catch the full story tonight at 11:35pm on ABC.  Read more »

TV Land‘s first original sitcom Hot in Cleveland is quick to make a splash on several media outlets thanks to 88-year-old Betty White, who has managed to become the new bacon and turn almost everything she touches into gold. So far, reviews from the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times about the breezy comedy have been respectable, describing it as "fun, solid and professional" though "not the most daring or  avant-garde comedy on television." But there are also TV critics who think that the show has fallen short of its hype and viewers‘ expectations. Read more »
Joe Jonas, star of Jonas, The Jonas Brothers: 3-D Concert Experience, Jonas: Living the Dream and other Jonas-ly titled media, will guest on Hot in Cleveland, TV Land‘s older-ladies-seeking-loving summer sitcom, Ausiello reports. The middle brother of Nick and Kevin will guest star as Valerie Bertinelli‘s son in an upcoming August episode--and though he‘s only slated for one episode at the moment, Cleveland‘s second season renewel leads Ausiello to claim that "his first appearance won‘t be his last."No doubt Joe, at the ripe old teen-idol age of 20, will fit right in with the premise of the series, which is about "three past-their-prime entertainment industry veterans" and their "sassy caretaker," played by Betty White. Channel all your elderly rage at that sassy 16-year-old upstart Justin Bieber, your experience as a "Single Lady" and all that practice hamming it up for the JONAS laugh track, and you‘ll do juuuust fine, Joe.In all seriousness, though, we‘re excited to see Joe on Hot in Cleveland, if only because, as far as his TV acting career goes, he‘s got nowhere to go but up: Read more »

Comedy fans will be forced to choose between their favorite underachievers and brainiacs when fall rolls around, as CBS revealed they‘ve shifted The Big Bang Theory to 8pm on Thursdays, up against the criminally under-rated Community on NBC.How will Community fight this Big Bang challenger? By bringing out a not-so-secret weapon for their season 2 premiere: that ubiquitous ratings-picker-upper Betty White. The Hot in Cleveland star will play professor of anthropology named June Bauer, who‘s known for being "esteemed, albeit slightly unhinged." Unhinged and hilarious? Betty‘s gotten plenty of practice in a role like that. Read more »
Besides the fact that it‘s the hottest (get it?) show on TV right now about older women who move to the Midwest in order to take advantage of that geographical region‘s lower standards of female attractiveness, why would Joe Jonas take on a guest role on Hot in Cleveland, playing opposite four actresses whose past sitcoms were already in reruns on Nick at Nite before he was even born? I‘m just saying I‘m reasonably confident that before he stepped on set, Joe Jonas thought Valerie Bertinelli was a fancy Italian pasta dish. Did Joe Jonas even know TV Land was an actual network and not some sort of niche amusement park before they approached him to play Bertinelli‘s son? There‘s really no way of knowing, but ... no. I‘ll go out on a limb here and say no. So why did Joe agree to hitch his star to Betty White and her gang of aging cougars? Two words: BIEBER SLAM! Read more »
