Guiding Light (also known as "The Guiding Light" prior to 1975) is the longest running soap opera in American history. CBS first aired Guiding Light on January 25, 1937. On September 7, 2006 Guiding Light celebrated its 15,000th episode. The show chronicles the lives and struggles of residents first in the fictional town of Five Points before moving to Shelby Flats and now finally at Springfield. Unlike many television series, the Emmy-award winning Guiding Light is filmed currently at the CBS studio in Manhattan, New York.
