On this Grey‘s Anatomy episode, the dreaded merger with Mercy West begins. The residents of Seattle Grace and Mercy West vie for surgeries and their careers. Meanwhile, Arizona stands by an enraged Callie when her father, Mr. Torres, employs a priest to help convince her to date men, and Izzie experiences the brunt of her new surgical competition.

Mer (Ellen Pompeo) talks about paranoia on the start of Grey‘s Anatomy, and Cristina (Sandra Oh) has a brilliant eureka moment about peds being the only field where she‘ll have absolute tyrannical control over the body. Actually, it‘s just her way to make sure she survives the cut due to the upcoming merger. Fortunately or otherwise, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) bursts her bubble and tells her that she doesn‘t love kids.

Or perhaps because of George‘s (TR Knight) death that Grey‘s Anatomy packed a wallop on its premiere last week. Despite being long advertised (and celebrated or rued, depending on which side you belong), the death of one of the original Seattle Grace interns was still anticipated and watched by a lot of people - 17.1 million in the first hour, and somehow dwindling by some 600,000 in the second.

On this episode of Grey‘s Anatomy, Izzie is back to work weeks after her near-death experience. Elsewhere, Seattle Grace residents compete to survive the cuts in view of the merger with Mercy West. Even Cristina finds herself working alongside Arizona in pediatrics. And Bailey and Alex‘s patient‘s already complex case is further complicated by her schizophrenic son.

Continued from here.The second hour of the two-part Grey‘s Anatomy premiere begins on day 20 after George‘s death - a neither here nor there kind of time leap. Not too soon but not too far off, too. We open with ceviche Clara actually doing well, until she finds out about an infection that might require her to have a poo bag. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is furious at Cristina (Sandra Oh) for telling the patient - I have no clue what the deal is here.

Back to regular programming on Grey‘s Anatomy, and we know who‘s dying and living, but we still love to see how they do it.While both Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George (TR Knight) are on the operating table, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) tells us the five stages of grieving. Stevens open her eyes, and George - surprise, surprise - flat lines. And Callie‘s (Sara Ramirez) eyes are all we need to see. Callie suffers a breakdown. She can‘t breathe, and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and the rest go to the OR. "We did everything," Derek (Patrick Dempsey) tells them.

There really is not much left to be said on the return of Grey‘s Anatomy tonight. George (TR Knight) is dead, Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is alive, and everyone in between is either having sex everywhere, trying to run a hospital on a budget, or dealing with a still cancer-stricken wife. This is perhaps the downside of having a very popular show (with very talkative cast members). Since the finale, the internet has been abuzz with speculations on George and Izzie and by the time we kick off with the continuation of the cliffhanger, everything‘s been said and done and it‘s sort of anticlimactic.

Just a couple of days before the big 2 hour season 6 premiere of Grey‘sAnatomy, Ellen Pompeo and husband Chris Ivery enjoyed an even biggerpremiere; the birth of their first child, a daughter. Stella LunaPompeo Ivery was born Tuesday September 15th according to Pompeo‘srepresentative.
