Grey's Anatomy: All About Izzie

April 21, 2009

There is so much buzz surrounding the last few episodes of Grey's Anatomy. There's the highly anticipated wedding and then there's George's direction as a military and trauma doctor. But perhaps the most controversial of all is Izzie's fate as a cancer-stricken patient, along with her portrayer Katherine Hiegl's fate on the medical drama. Whether or not it has something to do with her looming exit, the spotlight is now focused on Heigl, who seems to be doing her best work since season 2.

"These next two episodes [April 23 and 30] are as solid as any I've seen this season," said Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, who also hinted on some Izzie scoop for the remaining episodes of Grey's Anatomy's fifth season.

Warning: Spoilers ahead!!!

'Grey's Anatomy' Star Ellen Pompeo is Pregnant

April 20, 2009

Everything is coming up babies.

Our favorite dark and twisty star of ABC's Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo, has just announced that she is pregnant with her first child.

Pompeo's rep, Jennifer Allen, confirmed to People that Ellen Pompeo, 39, and her husband Chris Ivery, 41, are "ecstatic" to be starting a family together.

Grey's Anatomy: What About the Other Characters?

April 20, 2009

The brouhaha over Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George (T.R. Knight) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) has been so loud that we might forget that the final four episodes of Grey's Anatomy (including the two-hour season finale) has potentially as much bearing in the lives of the other characters.  For instance, Callie (Sara Ramirez) is set to introduce Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) to her father, who won't exactly be jumping for joy with the news while Owen (Kevin McKidd) continues to struggle with PTSD, after the seriously scary strangling episode involving his now ex Cristina (Sandra Oh).

In fact, I don't think a lot of Grey's Anatomy fans noticed how heartbreaking (and ingenious) it was that Cristina told Meredith they broke up immediately after Meredith broke the news that she's engaged.  I'm not blaming anyone for being overly engrossed in the who's-getting-married and who's-dying bandwagon; both are no doubt very exciting.  For the sake of fairness, however, let's take a break from Izzie and George and MerDer and speculate on how the other Grey's characters would fare, as this season heads to its conclusion.

'Big Bang Theory' Star To Appear on 'Grey's Anatomy'

April 19, 2009

As BuddyTV reported earlier this month, there are a lot of guest stars to look forward as Grey's Anatomy wraps up its fifth season. Debra Mooney (Everwood) and Liza Weil (Gilmore Girls, The West Wing) have signed on for the highly anticipated season ender in which Mooney will play the mother of Kevin McKidd's emotionally plagued character Owen, while Weil will appear as a cancer patient who crosses paths with Izzie. There's already much buzz surrounding what series creator Shonda Rhimes has cooked up for the two-hour season ender on May 14 but it seems that fans are in for more surprises.

According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, Kaley Cuoco, who plays lead female character Penny on The Big Bang Theory, will be arriving at Seattle Grace just in time for the finale. And it seems that there's a clandestine plot attached to her guest role.

'Grey's Anatomy' Wedding Crew Spotted, The Jig is Up!

April 17, 2009

Shonda got us good.  Or so she thinks.

After the slew of spoilers, confirmations and subsequent retractions, no one knows what's going to happen as Grey's Anatomy inches closer to its finale.  Initially, the ABC medical dramedy's now notorious creator has informed everyone via Twitter that it is indeed Derek and Meredith who are saying their I do's on the show's 100th episode. Not that she isn't trustworthy (or a flat-out evil liar), but it's just very hard to believe that things will go as planned on the episode.

Now another report surfaced that claims it has nailed down Shonda and for good. According to the source, it spotted the filming of the heavily anticipated wedding scene and can now conclusively identify who's getting married, once and for all. If such is true, didn't the Grey's Anatomy crew learn anything from the Sex and the City film?  I heard those folks shot multiple endings just to avoid spilling the plot.

Read at your own risk. Spoilers.

Time for another 'Grey's Anatomy' Spin-off?

April 15, 2009

The last article here didn’t exactly produce amicable discussion.  In fact, it kind of sowed discord more than anything, so let’s try to at least shy away from that sticky topic for today’s Grey’s Anatomy article.  From what I observe, though, there are those who would only miss TR Knight, those who would only miss Katherine Heigl, and those who would miss both.  Then there are those who openly berate the fans of the two, announcing unabashedly that they couldn’t wait to see them go.  For their part, these fans have been rather illogically branded as supporters of Isaiah Washington, who was kicked off Grey’s Anatomy after allegedly using the F-word in reference to Knight (how this issue is related to the whole Heigl and Knight leaving Grey’s is beyond me).

That being said, I can’t help but play with the possibility, however minute and far-fetched at this point, that perhaps the characters of George and Izzie might be developed enough to merit their own spin-off.  By now, it is pretty obvious that the writers of Grey’s Anatomy have been struggling to come up with a consistent series of storylines for sweet little George.  As for Izzie, it will be very, very disconcerting if she survives her condition (5 percent survival rate, anyone?).

Grey's Anatomy: Will George Be Killed Off?

April 15, 2009

It’s been months now since Grey’s Anatomy series creator Shonda Rhimes set the record straight that cast members T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl are not leaving the show but it seems that these exit rumors just won’t die.  You can’t really blame skeptics for not believing.  After all, Rhimes doesn’t exactly have the best reputation when it comes to credibility.  While we already know what may possibly drive Heigl’s Izzie to crossover the other side (the controversial cancer), the fate of Knight’s character, George, hasn’t exactly been clear.

Warning: May contain spoilers!
