In stark contrast to the third season finale, in which everyone ended up miserable and alone, nearly all the characters on Grey's Anatomy finished this fourth season smooching the nearest hot body. And if they weren't coupling up, they were becoming more confident and whole in themselves. That's part of why the two-hour season finale of Grey's Anatomy was so satisfying to watch. I get that loss, heartbreak and emotional torment make for good television, but it's also nice to see the characters that we've invested so much time in getting to know succeed once in a while.
Read on to take a look at all the coupling that occurred in the season finale.

For quite some time leading up to the Grey’s Anatomy season 4 finale, fans had been wondering if either Callie Torres or Erica Hahn were actually lesbians. There were the looks, the laughs, the way they were drawn to each other, like part of some exclusive club. Erica had said that Callie was beautiful while Callie tensed up every time Erica was in her presence. Finally, on the May 22 finale, the two kissed – and not just for show. They seem to be a bona fide Seattle Grace couple now. Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes recently weighed in on the latest work romance to Entertainment Weekly and if the two will be an item in season 5.

Ever since the depressing third season of Grey's Anatomy, and continuing into this season, the show that I once so loved seemed to have lost its luster. I know this is blasphemy to all the Grey's Anatomy faithful out there, but there was way too much emphasis on Meredith's inability to commit and Izzie's obsession with herself, and not enough girl power or Justin Chambers' black wifebeater.
But last Thursday's fourth season finale of Grey's Anatomy changed everything. Shonda Rhimes and company really stepped up and brought us two hours of television that was pitch perfect in almost every conceivable way. (I say "almost" because I still think that Shonda and her merry band of writers still have a Hummer-sized blindspot for Derek Shepherd's douchebaggery, but I'll get to that in a little bit.)

On tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy, Meredith continued her therapy as she tried to come to terms with her mom's attempted suicide during her childhood. Cristina got her mojo back, courtesy of a sparkle pager. Alex disregarded all rationale in his attempt to care for Rebecca. George received a lot more information than he bargained for, courtesy of Lexie's photographic memory. The staff at Seattle Grace came together to save a patient stuck in a very interesting position. Derek and Meredith worked side by side on the last two patients in their clinical trial.

Grey's Anatomy has its two-hour season finale scheduled for tonight. According to ABC, tonight's season finale, entitled "Freedom," Meredith and Derek will have one last shot at a successful outcome in their clinical trial. Other surgeons work together to free a boy from a hardening block of cement. Meanwhile, Izzie helps Alex care for an ailing Rebecca, and Lexie discovers critical information about George's intern status.
Tonight's season finale will surely bring lots of excitement and drama, but what are we supposed to do during the long summer months without any new episodes starring our favorite hot doctors? Well, you can read the Completely Unauthorized Grey's Anatomy 101, edited by Leah Wilson. BuddyTV has four copies of this book to give away.

Grey's Anatomy, for all its faults, succeeds in realistically portraying the huge amounts of mental and emotional pressure that people, especially those in high-stress professions like surgery, endure throughout their lives. We're all a little crazy. Sure, the doctors at Seattle Grace often have more outlandish problems than we do in the real world, but the emotions that they portray, the way they reach out (or don't reach out) to their friends when they need support, the way their personal lives bleed uncontrollably into their professional lives and vice versa, all of that is so relatable. We've all been in the Dark Place.

On tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy, Alex finally learns the truth about Rebecca's medical condition and it's about time! I'm still having a hard time believing that she made the whole thing up. It seems so unlike her but then again, I guess none of us really get who Rebecca is. Meredith tries to get out of therapy and Cristina continues to act out, struggling to get over Burke completely. More Madonna songs?
No such luck. Tonight's episode kicks off with Cristina holding a foreign object in her hand. A vacuum. Seems the stress of living in Burke's shadow has brought out her need to clean.
