A retired SRU sergeant, who was Ed's mentor, arrives at headquarters and barricades himself in a briefing room, where he plans to commit suicide. Ed attempts to talk him out of ending his life and learns the man is haunted by a tragic 1989 case that resulted in a boy's death. Downtown, unit members investigate a suspicious piece of luggage that may contain a bomb.
