There is a new category this year for the Prime Time Emmy Awards, and it has me quite excited. Probably far more excited than I should be. It is for the Best Reality Show Host. The Emmy Nominations will be announced next Thursday morning, July 17, and while we have a fairly good idea who the contenders are for the major awards, thanks to leaked short lists that have hit the internet over the past couple of weeks, we have no idea who the contenders for Reality Host will be. While the categories for Best Reality Show are split into Reality Show and Reality Show – Competition, the Host category is a veritable free-for-all. If you host any sort of prime time reality series, you are eligible. Since prognostication is part of the BuddyTV repertoire, we thought it'd be nice to take a look at who likely will be nominated and who, in a perfect world, should be.

The last time around, we reported on the latest beneficiary of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition being Kirkland, Washington resident, Connie Chapin, whose 100-year old ancestral home was already on its last posts and shingles. Ty Pennington and his crew of fast and hard-working home builders showed up on Chapin's doorstep on Wednesday, September 26.
The century old structure was torn down the following day, with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition scheduled to replace it with the Chapin family's brand-new residence in a week. However, due to unforeseen complications brought about by the old house's construction materials and the inclement Washington weather, the big reveal had to be pushed back a day.

A Kirkland swimming teacher is getting her century old house a much-needed rebuild courtesy of Ty Pennington and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Among those who will take part in the episode is the University of Washington swimming team, which will assist Connie Chapin in a special segment of her Extreme Makeover: Home Edition episode set to air in January.
The mother of four, whose only source of livelihood comes from teaching swimming to underprivileged children, got the surprise of her life Wednesday, when, out of nowhere and beyond her wildest dreams, Ty Pennington and the rest of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew parked themselves in front her Highland neighborhood residence.

While their nominations might not get quite the same amount of speculation and attention as do the noms for comedy and drama series or individual actors, reality programs are still part of the Emmy Award night. And with reality shows appearing to have outlived all the “This is just a fad” predictions, and finding themselves fairly firmly entrenched in nearly every network's schedule, the competition for the gold statuette can be just as fierce as any Survivor challenge.
Reality television awards are divided into two categories, Reality-Competition Programs, and plain ol' Reality Programs. The nominations for each category bring some heavy-hitters, some old contenders and a couple of new faces.

Lt. Andy Baldwin, Pearl Harbor-based naval doctor who starred in season 10 of ABC’s reality dating show, The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman, was often cited for his numerous achievements in the field of sports, military and medicine. But apart from his successful career, he was also most notable for his humanitarian acts. Last year, he was asked to serve as a surgeon for a team of fifty military personnel in Laos. In addition to his many medical missions, he also established a fund to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. He also saved the life of a man during The Bachelor’s cast and crew wrap up party at a club in the Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu, Hawaii. Most recently, the 30-year old native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania helped build a new home in Kalihi.
Baldwin served as a volunteer to work behind the scenes on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which is slated to return in its fifth season on September 23.

Many reality TV stars had already crossed the threshold of the law just like The Simple Life’s Paris Hilton and Laguna Beach’s Jason Wahler. Surprisingly, another TV icon had joined the bandwagon and he came in the form of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington.

According to reports, Pennington had an blood alcohol level of .14, which was over the legal limit of .08 in California. In less than three hours, he was released over a bail amounting to $5,000.
