katie holmesFollowing a series of movie projects, Katie Holmes returns to the small screen to guest star on ABC's Eli Stone this coming fall. This casting news marks her first TV work since the teen drama Dawson's Creek as Joey Potter, a role she portrayed five years ago.  It also marks her reunion with show co-creator and executive producer Greg Berlanti, whom she previously worked with on Dawson's Creek.

Eli Stone, for those who are not familiar, is a drama that stars Jonny Lee Miller as the title character.  Stone is discovered to have an inoperable brain aneurysm, which causes hallucinations that may actually be divinely inspired visions of the future.

ABC Upfront Preview: 'Boston Legal' Renewed, 'Scrubs' Switches Network

May 12, 2008

While many networks might be in trouble next Fall due to the writers' strike shrinking the new pilot season, ABC is looking quite good.  It has a solid stable of returning favorites (Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives), hit reality shows (The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars) and a solid 2007 freshman class that will return for sophomore seasons (Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, Samantha Who?).  This doesn't leave much room for new or bubble shows, so this season ABC is cleaning out its closet, dumping a lot of iffy shows while picking up a few gems from other networks.

'Eli Stone' Maiden Season Ends with Moderate Numbers and Uncertain Future

April 21, 2008

Eli StoneThursday night was the finale of the first season of the surrealistic drama, Eli Stone.  By many accounts, the series chose a perfect ending to its experimental maiden season. But will it be enough to merit another go for Jonny Lee Miller and the rest of the Eli Stone cast and crew?

To date, Eli Stone's cast, crew and fans are still waiting for news from ABC on whether the show will get a second season.  And, as far as the finale's numbers go, there remains no solid basis to achieve any certainty of its return unless the network finally says so.

TV Tonight: Thursday, April 17

April 17, 2008

Every day, we here at BuddyTV will let you know all the new shows airing that night to help you plan your TV-viewing schedule. In addition, we’ll highlight two episodes we think are worth checking out to help diversify your love of TV.

Tonight is full of repeats from both Lost and CSI, so I’ve decided to do something a bit different: in addition to promoting one new episode tonight, I’m going to spotlight a repeat that you may have missed the first time because you were too busy watching new episodes of Lost. It’s an episode of the CW’s Supernatural called “Mystery Spot,” and it’s a Groundhog Day-inspired tale that will make you laugh and cry.

eli stoneLast week on Eli Stone, Eli's visions propelled him back in time to the day his father died.  At the same time, his brother Nathan was being sued for giving a heart transplant to another patient.  By the end of the episode, Eli finally understood the emotional secret his brother has been hiding for years and made amends as he got the chance he missed to say goodbye to his father.  Eli also learned that Matt slept with Taylor.

The comedy-drama continues tonight as Eli Stone takes viewers to the possible future that lies ahead for the mercenary attorney.  After his larger-than-life visions, caused by his inoperable brain aneurysm, prove to be more and more truthful than ever before, Eli must now face the painful reality waiting to unfold.

Miller "Not Fatalistic" About 'Eli Stone'

February 14, 2008

Jonny Lee Miller as Eli StoneJonny Lee Miller is happy to have landed a starring role on American television, but experience has taught him that one shouldn't express too much enthusiasm nor expect great results every time something good like this happens.

“Everyone was very excited about Smith,” Miller told Boston Herald, referring to ABC's short-lived drama in which he starred, “and it's the same thing with Eli Stone.  Now I'm not fatalistic about it.  But it's just that I know not to get overexcited and not to expect certain things to happen.”

Pilot Review: You Gotta Have Faith in 'Eli Stone''

January 31, 2008

Eli StoneAs George Michael sings in the pilot episode of Eli Stone, this show is about “faith.” It's rare for television to offer a substantive program that deals with religion. On the spectrum of religious TV, Eli Stone falls somewhere between the esotericism of John from Cincinnati and the naïve simplicity of 7th Heaven.

Eli Stone, premiering tonight at 10pm on ABC following the season premiere of Lost, tells the story of a young lawyer (Johny Lee Miller) who suddenly begins to hear and see things that aren't really thee, from cable cars in his building's lobby to George Michael performing a concert in his living room. Over the course of the premiere, he attempts to understand the significance of this.
