Catherine Tate Stunned to Have Been Invited Back to 'Doctor Who'

September 27, 2007

Catherine Tate on Doctor WhoIn July, BBC announced that Catherine Tate, who served as a temporary companion to David Tennant when Billie Piper left Doctor Who, would be returning to the show as a regular come the fourth season.   At the time, the 39-year-old actress expressed her delight for having been asked to return, but she now admits that she was actually stunned by the invitation.

"When I was asked to do it, I genuinely couldn't believe they'd asked me,” Tate told the official Doctor Who magazine.  “I was having lunch with [executive producer] Julie Gardner and it was the last thing I thought we were going to have a conversation about.  She said it, and I nearly ... well, I ... even now, I just can't believe it.  I'm speechless."

August 5, 2007

Human/Dalek Hybrids?  Get out of town.  The Doctor Who two-parter “Evolution of the Daleks” proved that even beings free from time and space sometimes inspires the most ridiculous TV writing.   “Evolution of the Daleks” may have been a hoot for Doctor Who newbies, but it was a drag for aficionados.

The Human Dalek Sec is planning a human/dalek hybridization so that Daleks can become bipedal and be freed from their metal shells.   Doesn’t fit with what you know about the Dalek mindset?  Congrats, you’re not a newbie.

'Doctor Who' 3.03 "Gridlock" - Recap

July 20, 2007

Doctor Who GridlockDoctor Who returns to familiar ground in tonight's episode “Gridlock.”  Martha, still a fickle companion, asks for another trip, this time into Earth's distance future, and the good Doctor is happy to oblige.  This is the future earth we saw in roses day, a billion years on with all sorts of evolved intelligent animals.

The Face of Boe returns.  In case you don't remember, the face is a fleshy rectangle stretched on a frame with a face in the middle.  Handsome creature.   The Face senses the Doctor's presence and sends an evolved cat named Novice to track him down.  Meanwhile the Doctor and Martha discover mood peddlers selling moods like drugs in the underground city.  The Doctor objects and vows to shut them down.
