We recently reported on Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) emotional developments come season 3, with executive producer Clyde Phillips talking about the dynamism of the main character’s inner turmoil. Now, he talks about the other characters on the show, and how they will create ripples in the water now that Dexter has found a new friend in District Attorney Miguel Prado, played by Jimmy Smits.
In fact, Phillips revealed that aside from being a good friend to Dexter, Jimmy Smit’s character will also be a brotherly figure to him, revealing that “the audience is going to fall for [Miguel Prado], much like Dexter falls for him. He becomes a bit of the older brother that Dexter really wants. Dexter has that hole in his life from killing his brother in the first year."

Voting for the Emmys is an interesting process. For the Best Drama and Best Comedy categories, all the potential nominees send one episode (one hour, so no two-parters) to the Academy members. Once the final nominations come out, each nominated show then resubmits six hours of television. They put those six hours on three two-hour tapes, and Academy members are sent only two of those tapes. They are distributed randomly, meaning that different Academy members will see different episodes. Why they do this, I have no idea. They just do. Today, our friends at Gold Derby released the episode submissions for each Best Drama nominee. You can find those listed below, with commentary at the bottom.

We already reported that Dexter’s very own Michael C. Hall revealed some juicy insights on what is to take place on the third and upcoming season of the Showtime series. In fact, we already found out that Jimmy Smits will be appearing to play Dexter’s first ever best buddy! More recently, Dexter’s executive producer, Clyde Phillips spoke to Zap2It to reveal some of the nitty gritty details that will make this season of Dexter the most exciting yet.
The dynamics of the third season lies in Dexter’s relationship with his father, and Phillips reveals that “[Dexter’s father] Harry represents the subtext and alter ego of Dexter's conscious. Dexter's not really having imaginary conversations with him, he's really having imaginary conversations with himself.”

The second season of Dexter, the dark drama about a serial killer, will forever hold a place in the history of Showtime. This year Dexter is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, marking the first time Showtime has ever received such a nomination. For that reason alone, the season 2 DVD set, released today, is worth getting.
Which is good, because the total lack of Dexter-related special features is a bit disappointing. Todays DVD fans are looking for deleted scenes, gag reels, audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes and other added incentives to enhance the experience of a series. The Dexter season 2 DVD, however, seems to exist almost entirely as a cross-promotional mechanism for Showtime to expose Dexter fans to everything else on the network.

With the new season of Dexter already in the horizon, fans can’t wait to see their favorite stars get back into the crime-solving, serial-killing action that places the characters in complex situations. One Dexter star in particular is used to be in the middle of the more masculine storylines, having worked on films Rambo, Punisher: War Zone and Saw V. Julie Benz, the 36-year-old actress who plays Rita Bennett in Dexter, says that her character in the series is very different from the roles she had in the films.
“I'm the warmth, I'm the heart, I'm the home life of Dexter,” Julie Benz told Crave Online. “So I'm not really involved in a lot of the psychological death. I'm not involved in the blood. I'm involved in the family life. It is very different for me.”

The Comic-Con and TCA supercharged television fans with a renewed anticipation for their favorite television shows, which are returning this fall with brand new seasons. The same goes for Dexter, which promises a brand new spanking season come September 28. We recently reported that Jimmy Smits will be part of the new season, as he plays Dexter’s new buddy. It seems that collaboration was a success, as Michael C. Hall, who plays central character Dexter Morgan, says that it was an amazing experience working with Smits.
“It’s been great. He’s not only a great actor, but a consummate professional and a really kind man," he told the TV Addict. "As was the case with Keith Carradine coming on board last season, it’s a real shot in the arm that the show can attract someone of that calibre.”

The San Diego Comic-Con did wonders for Dexter fans, who are already anticipating the September 28 return of the show's third season. CBS treated the fans to an airing of the edited versions of Dexter's debut season during the WGA writers' strike, thus sparking interest in old nad new fans alike. Because of the show's massive support, it was able to land a whopping five Emmy nominations, including one for Best Drama Series and Best Actor. Last week, the stars of the Showtime's Dexter gathered for the Comic-Con, which premiered the third season's trailer.
Fans and viewers were then introduced to Jimmy Smits, who will be playing Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado in the third season of Dexter. Prado was described as a man committed to family values, committed to cleaning up the streets," pretty much like Dexter himself.

Dexter's highly-anticipated third season premieres September 28 on Showtime, and the series has never been more popular. During the writer's strike, CBS made the controversial decision to air edited versions of Dexter's first season during prime time. Though fans felt the edited version watered down the show and opponents didn't want that sort of violence on network TV, the CBS experiment seems to have worked. Dexter received five Emmy nominations last week, including nods for Best Drama Series and Best Actor. And, if the attendance at today's Dexter panel (including the hordes of people who couldn't get in to the packed house) is any indication, Dexter is riding a wave of immense popularity right now. Stars Michael C. Hall and Julie Benz joined writers Clyde Phillips and Melissa Rosenberg on the panel, which was moderated by E!'s Kristin Dos Santos.
