Desperate Housewives: 'Sopranos' Actress Heads to Wisteria Lane

June 30, 2009

Leave it to the people behind Desperate Housewives to make sure that Wisteria Lane is never short of a vixen to stir things up. Producers have been on the lookout for another housewife to join the ABC dramedy for quite some time and now that Nicolette Sheridan's character Edie is finally out of the picture, it's time to put a face to Edie's highly anticipated replacement.

According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, Emmy-winning Sopranos heroine Drea de Matteo is joining the cast of Desperate Housewives as a series regular next season. Though her character is yet to be named, she'll be playing the matriarch of a new Italian family. On the other hand, casting is underway for her on-screen landscape designer husband and their 19-year-old tightly wound son, who is likely to strike a spark with one of the neighborhood girls.

24: 'Desperate' Boot Camper Joins Anil Kapoor's Team

June 30, 2009

Still in anticipation of 24's eighth season, and still counting down the new members of the series' cast, well, chalk up another one.  T.J. Ramini has taken a recurring slot on the show, appearing as Tarin Karoush, an associate of Omar Hassan, the Middle Eastern peacekeeper played by Slumdog Millionaire star Anil Kapoor.

'Desperate Housewives' Season 6 Spoilers

June 15, 2009

The Desperate Housewives finale definitely had a few shockers, on top of a major cliffhanger (a wedding with a faceless bride), and it was so good that some critics predict that the ABC dramedy may just be back to the Emmy's race this season.

To refresh your memory, the season 5 finale saw the unfolding of Dave's long-winded revenge plot that could've taken the lives of Susan and cute MJ.  Elsewhere, Lynette found out that she was pregnant (again) with twins (again), just as Tom found out he was on his way back to school.  And Gaby welcomed what she thought was a harmless little thing to their home (Carlos' niece) but turned out to be a feisty little thing instead.

Warning: potential spoilers.

'Desperate Housewives' Back to Emmy Race with Finale?

May 25, 2009

Four years after its smashing rookie season, Desperate Housewives, says some critics, just might get back to the Emmys race with its startling two-hour finale last Sunday.  Most praised the show for the risk it took when it opted to shift the story five years to the future.  The reboot, then, is seen as to have given the show its much-needed reformat.

The suburbia-themed ABC dramedy has competed for television's top plum only once, in 2005, during its maiden run, when it lost to the last year of Everybody Loves Raymond.

ABC'S 2009-2010 Lineup: 11 New Shows

May 19, 2009

ABC unveiled its Fall schedule today and it features an ambitious lineup of new series to premiere all season long.  The schedule features eight new shows, including a Wednesday night that contains nothing but new programs.  This is identical to the strategy ABC used two years ago when it premiered three new hour-long shows on Wednesdays.

The new Wednesday, however, features four new half-hour comedies which I will tentatively title the Back to You reject lineup, as three of the sitcoms star former cast members of that failed FOX sitcom, including Kelsey Grammer, Patricia Heaton and Ty Burrell.  The other big change to the schedule is that Ugly Betty has been bumped to Fridays, wedged between Supernanny and 20/20.

FOX
ABC
NBC
CBS
The CW

'Desperate Housewives' Finale Wins Sunday Night

May 18, 2009

The two-hour finale of Desperate Housewives Sunday handily beat out competition, including old reliable Survivor and the subsequent reunion show on CBS.  The ABC drama reeled in 13.9 million viewers compared to 12.7 for the Survivor finale and 11.8 for the reunion show that immediately followed.  Fox animated series Family Guy and NBC's SNL Just Shorts trailed the pack, with 7.3 mil and 3.8 mil respectively.

Desperate Housewives also scored the biggest share in the crucial 18-49 demo, drawing in a 4.72/12 rating.  The strong numbers, however, are down 24 percent from last year's season finale.

'Desperate Housewives' Spin-off in the Works?

May 18, 2009

Alongside spoiling to viewers of The View that his sociopath character Dave Williams would die on the Desperate Housewives finale, Neal McDonough also confirmed rumors of a Desperate Housewives spin-off, saying they're "seriously talking" about it, featuring Karen McCluskey, played by Kathryn Joosten and her sister Roberta, played by Lily Tomlin, who returned to Wisteria Lane on last night's finale.

A rep for ABC, however, has denied the news, saying "there's no truth to the spin-off rumor."

Desperate Housewives: Preview of Season 5 Finale

May 17, 2009

Tonight's Desperate Housewives is doubly exceptional.  For one thing, it's the finale of the series' fifth season, which probably leaves us with another cliffhanger for the next installment.  Another surprise that the series has in store is that tonight's finale is going to be a two-hour special.

For the first hour, the episode titled "Everybody Says Don't" takes the screen.  Though it shares a title with a season 2 episode, it's possible that it's a tentative one for tonight's installment.  Gabrielle (Eva Longoria Parker) isn't pleased when Carlos' (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) family stops by to visit.  What's worse is that they ask the Solises to take Gaby's niece under their wing.
