Deadwood on HBO chronicles the coming of age of an illegal settlement in the Dakota Territories in the 1870s. Deadwood primarily exists and then expands to fuel the gold rush in the surrounding area, while experiencing an influx of lawlessness fueled by prospectors, prostitutes, immigrant laborers, outlaws, and historical figures. Deadwood mixes in historical figures like Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, and Wyatt Earp with a dose of fictional story telling. The drama series also includes power struggles, gunfights, and criminal activities that one would associate with the "Wild Wild West" of American lore.
