While the rest of the world celebrates love with flowers and Hallmark cards, Days of our Lives is all about impending doom today.  And not just the planes dropping out of the air kind of impending doom.  Lexie Carver (Renee Jones) asks Abe (James Reynolds) to find out what John‘s plane‘s flight plan was because one of the Bradys has a terminal illness.Meanwhile, up in the air, John (Drake Hogestyn) has helpfully done some arithmetic and figures that they have two hours in the air, but only an hour and a half of oxygen left, so they are going to need the oxygen masks.  All the passengers yell at him to think of a solution, and I really don‘t think yelling is the way to go.  Unhappily, not all of the oxygen masks seem to be working.  Say it with me, now....Ruh-roh! Read more »

Before I begin the live thoughts of today‘s Days of our Lives, I have to admit to you all that I have egg on my face regarding my criticism of the pancreas transplant storyline.  I wrote yesterday that it was silly because it‘s so highly, highly unlikely.  Well, I did a little bit of research on it (read: I asked my friend who is a doctor) and found that it is possible to live with only a partial pancreas, but the more likely scenario would be to do a whole transplant from a very recently deceased cadaver and not from a live person.  Well, see, I guess I don‘t know anything about medicine, despite the hours of Grey‘s Anatomy and Private Practice and ER and Days of our Lives that I have watched.  Doh! Read more »

Salem will soon lose yet another resident.  As reported earlier this month, Kristen Renton, who currently plays Morgan Hollingsworth, has been let go on Days of our Lives, less than one year into her four-year contract. While the news of her exit may be a blow to many fans, the program‘s decision to scrap her on-screen alter ego has more than caught the actress by surprise, especially since she‘ll be leaving unexpectedly this week.Renton joined Days of our Lives just last year as the Alpha Chi Theta sorority sister of Chelsea and Stephanie at Salem University.  She wasn‘t supposed to be with the soap for more than a week or two but found herself in budding plot as her character quickly forged a friendship with Chelsea and Stephanie, eventually dated Max Brady much to the dismay of Stephanie, who still harbored feelings for Max, and was involved in the Ford Decker storyline.  Most recently, she was seen in a budding relationship with Philip that seems to be deteriorating as she discovers Paul‘s involvement with her father. Read more »

When a television show has been up and running since the 1960s, you know it means business.  Apparently, Days of Our Lives has followed suit.  Having recently celebrated its 43rd anniversary last November 8, the show seemed unstoppable.  However, fans have constantly speculated that the days for Days of Our Lives have ended.  Many believed that their beloved soap opera would no longer exist in the near future, but all accounts of that have been disproved.  According to NBC, Days of Our Lives will simply keep going.  The network has announced that they have just signed an 18-month deal with Sony Pictures TV.  This merits a collective cheer from fans worldwide, but the good news doesn‘t stop there.  It means that the recent contract that Days has, which runs out in March 2009, will extend even further.  The soap will definitely be running until around September of 2010.  Read more »
Frequent casting changes are something soap opera fans are used to by now.  Almost every month, there are reports of who‘s to come and who‘s to go, and more often than not, viewers are able to adapt to the absence of the old and the presence of the new.  But when it comes to cutting out major stars whose existence on the show have greatly affected other characters and the general direction of the program, it‘s quite difficult to imagine how fans will react to the big changes.According to TV Guide, the sands in the hourglass have run out for Days of our Lives veterans Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn as both have been fired from the 43-year-old soap.  NBC made the announcement in a statement Wednesday as the network deals with budget cuts. Read more »

Just like her character Sami Brady on Days of our Lives, Alison Sweeney is pregnant and due to give birth to her second child.  Recently, the 31-year-old actress made a guest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on December 3 and appeared to be going into labor during her interview with Ellen.  While an online report suggested that The Biggest Loser host actually went into labor, a rep for the actress said it was merely part of the show."I was a guest on Ellen and they asked me if I would help them play a practical joke. I have learned since then that when they reveal the 12 days of [Christmas] giveaways, they try and set up a stunt that ends up being cut off or not happening because a bell rings and then out comes a dancing character and Ellen gives away these amazing gifts to the audience. So, they asked me if I would start to feel labor pains and asked me to do it coming out of the commercial break,” Sweeney explained to Soap Opera Digest. Read more »
