'Dance War' Premieres to Mixed Reactions

January 11, 2008

Dancing with the Stars has been a strong performer for ABC, and American Idol is consistently a ratings powerhouse that can't be beat. So combining some elements of each show - as new series Dance War somewhat has - seems like a sure thing, right?

Well, it turns out that it might not be such a slam-dunk for Dance War. Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Drew Lachey all have their fans, but the premiere this past week didn't necessarily end up as an unqualified success.

Dance War: Carrie Ann Inaba Celebrates Birthday, Contemplates Motherhood

January 9, 2008

The premiere of ABC's new dance series Dance War might not have been the ratings hit that she probably wanted, but star Carrie Ann Inaba still has had plenty to celebrate recently. The former Fly Girl and current Dancing with the Stars judge just had a milestone birthday – she's 40-years-old, if you can believe it – and is thinking about taking a big personal step.

She celebrated her birthday twice, once on January 5 with an intimate dinner with her boyfriend, 25-year-old dancer Artem Chigvintsev, and another bigger party on January 7 with friends.

Dance War: Premiere Recap

January 7, 2008

Two of the dance world's toughest judges are taking the biggest challenge of their careers. They are looking to make the world's best singing and dancing supergroup.

This is Dance War.

Drew Lachey introduces us to the show from the Dance War stage (which looks an awful lot like the Dancing with the Stars stage, by the way). Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba went around the country in a nationwide casting call, bringing the top 30 to the Hollywood callbacks. And from there, they selected 14 of the most talented to bring to Dance War. Bruno and Carrie Ann are backstage now with these 14. But before we can meet them, we have to sit through two hours of auditions.

ABC Expands 'Dance War' Premiere

December 19, 2007

ABC has expanded its new reality dance competition, Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann with the show's premiere episode running for two hours on Monday, January 7.

The series, the spin-off ABC's hit show Dancing with the Stars, will feature two teams of male and female amateur performers battling it out on the floor.  One team will be taught by Bruno Tonioli, while the other will be taught by Carrie Ann Inaba.  The teams will have to learn new routines from various dance styles, which they will perform live.  Viewers will then vote for the team that they believe was better, and the losing coach will have no other choice but to send one of his team members home.

'Dance War' Star "Doesn't Get Too Wrapped Up" in Fame

December 12, 2007

Choreographer Carrie Ann Inaba has been a prominent figure in the dance industry since the early 1990s, having performed on the live sketch comedy series In Living Color, and touring with Grammy-winning pop sensation Madonna.  More recently, she has gained much fame as one of the staple judges on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, and is now gearing up to appear on its spin-off, Dance War, with fellow choreographer Bruno Tonioli and music celebrity Drew Lachey.

Inaba's fame and popularity are well-deserved, but the 38-year-old makes it a point not to get too caught up in her celebrity, nor take it for granted.

Dancing with the Stars judges Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba will go head to head on the dance floor showing off their choreographic prowess. They are currently scouring the country for talented amateur singers and dancers at open auditions in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville.
