Oscar-Winner Marcia Gay Harden Joins 'Damages'

July 16, 2008

HardenThe star of FX's Damages, five-time Oscar-nominated actress Glenn Close, is set to be joined by a fellow multi-awarded actress in the person of Marcia Gay Harden to bolster the already stellar lineup for its coming season.  If we backtrack to the second week of June, it was reported that another Oscar-winner William Hurt (King of the Spider Woman) will play a client of Patty Hewes (Close).

Harden, who won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Pollock in 2000, will play a powerful attorney who opposes Hewes on a case.  In what appears like a trend of veteran actors transitioning to guest starring roles on television series, Harden also guest-starred on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit last year and actually won an Emmy for the role.

Oscar-Winner William Hurt Joins Cast of 'Damages'

June 16, 2008

Damages just added some firepower to an already formidable cast.  William Hurt, four-time Oscar nominee (and one time winner), has just signed on to join the cast of Damages for its second season, which is set to begin filming in New York City next week.  The FX drama is coming off a critically acclaimed first season, and is another in a long line of hard-hitting original programs from the cable network.  Hurt will portray a client of Glenn Close's attorney character Patty Hewes.  This marks a reunion of sorts – Close and Hurt co-starred in The Big Chill twenty five years ago.  They have not shared the screen since.

Glenn Close and Zeljko Ivanek, DamagesCheck out all our lists for BuddyTV's Top 7 of '07 to relive the best and the worst of the year in television.

John Kubicek ranked Damages 2nd.  He says...

No one is more surprised than I that when I put together my top shows of 2007 list, the FX drama Damages not only made it, but came in as the second best show of the year. When I first saw the pilot, I was instantly in love with the complex tale of a ruthless corporate lawyer named Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) trying to take down rich CEO Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson). From the start, the two were engaged in combat, a real life chess match in which their friends, families and associates are all merely pawns.

December 13, 2007

Glenn Close and Rose ByrneThe nominations for the 65th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning, and in the television categories, there's a good chance you haven't seen most of the nominees unless you have cable.  But unlike other awards shows where HBO is the cable giant, this year's nominees come from a wide variety of cable networks.

FX's Damages led all TV shows with a total of four nominations, while shows like AMC's Mad Men about ad executives in the 1960s and Showtime's Californication about a struggling, self-destructive writer and The Tudors about Henry VIII, all received multiple nominations.  Meanwhile, established network hits like Heroes, Lost, Desperate Housewives and 24 were completely shut out.  Continue reading for the full list of TV series nominees.
