ABKCO Records has released the first of the three 8-song “track packs” for Showtime's new comedy series, Californication. The first track pack, entitled Temptation: Music from the Showtime Series Californication, is available exclusively through iTunes.
In an effort to provide a soundtrack in a more immediate context than traditional albums, series music supervisors Budd Carr and Nora Felder approached ABKCO Vice President Alisa Coleman, who agreed to the concept with much enthusiasm. "We wanted to do something new with soundtracks," Carr said in a press release. "When Alisa cited ABKCO's strong ongoing relationship with iTunes, it seemed like we had the means at hand to provide viewers with an 'evolving soundtrack,'” a term used to refer to just-heard music that is made available to consumers on a scheduled basis.

Created by Tom Kapinos, Californication centers on a writer who struggles to juggle his busy career, his relationship with his daughter and his ex-girlfriend. A mix of comedy and drama sinks in as his appetite for beautiful women and his obsession with drugs interfere with his personal and professional life.
