Burn Notice, the No.1 original series on cable, is ending its first season with an explosive two-hour episode that will reveal the identity of the man who burned former spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan).
According to the network, the season finale, entitled “Loose Ends,” will have Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell) taking on a blackmail case. However, after stumbling upon a heroin smuggling ring, Sam turns to Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar) and Michael for help. Meanwhile, Michael finds himself playing a game of cat and mouse with Philip Cowan, the man who may have burned him.

USA Network's new spy series, Burn Notice, has turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the summer. The show, which airs on basic cable, averages 4 million viewers every week, and was recently renewed for a second season. It has also received glowing reviews from a number of critics, with the Los Angeles Times comparing series star Jeffrey Donovan to big-time Hollywood actor Bruce Willis.
Donovan's acting prowess and obvious charisma has earned him much praise, but he seems genuinely embarrassed about the attention he is getting. When the Palm Beach Post asked him about being television's newest sex symbol, Donovan simply replied, “I don't even know how to respond to that. It's all in the writing. I only wish I was as charming as Michael Westen."

Gabrielle Anwar is the beautiful British star of the USA original series Burn Notice, airing Thursdays at 10pm. Earlier this year, viewers may have also seen her star as Henry VIII's sister in the Showtime drama The Tudors. However, most people took note of this trained dancer when she famously tangoed with Al Pacino in the film Scent of a Woman.
Always witty, Gabrielle spoke with BuddyTV about her new show, her jovial co-stars Jeffrey Donovan and Bruce Campbell, and, even with her years of training and experience, why she would never want to be on Dancing with the Stars. Since making his film debut in Throwing Down, Jeffrey Donovan has made several guest appearances on network television and has also had numerous major motion pictures roles. Currently, Jeffrey stars as secret agent Michael Westen on USA Network’s Burn Notice and decided to take a break from jumping over cars and dodging bullets to talk to us at BuddyTV about the show and his character.

Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) and his cronies entertain us this week on Burn Notice with lessons they've learned from the mysterious and cutthroat world of international espionage. Michael makes a motion detector ring his cell phone when it is tripped. Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) teaches us that throwing Molotov cocktails at the bad guys' cars before they get out of them is a good way to make them leave. While Sam's (Bruce Campbell) contribution to the Burn Notice crew (besides his love of beer, women and going pants-less) is to use the Feds (who have been using him to keep tabs on Michael) to help out this week's client, with them none the wiser. Gotta love the spy business.
But the more interesting aspects of Burn Notice are revealed in the continuous undercurrent of Michael's personal life – the life he has kept himself removed from during all of his years in the spy business. Being forced to reside in his home town, with both his mom (Sharon Gless) and his ex-girlfriend close at hand, is forcing Michael to deal with all of the things about him and his life that he has buried deep, deep down. He is emotionally-handicapped, and everyone seems to know that but him. That is the kind of stuff that makes Burn Notice special, and not "just another spy show" on television. This episode scrapes a little bit more off of Michael's protective spy coating, and the title of "Fight or Flight" can relate to both the plot and to Michael's response to that personal life. He would rather pick a fight or run away, than deal with anything involving emotions. This made him a terrific spy, but a horrible son and boyfriend.

When I first saw the promos for Burn Notice, all it took was for Jeffrey Donovan's face to flash on the screen and I knew that I would be giving this show a look. I first discovered Donovan on the short-lived show Touching Evil, which also aired on the USA network back in 2004. The man makes an impression. He is a leading man with the facial expressions of a character actor. No matter what he does, he is fun to watch. After seeing the pilot episode of Burn Notice last week, I see that my memory served me correctly.
From the looks of the numbers for the pilot episode, Burn Notice attracted other USA watchers as well. Donovan's character, Michael Westen, a government spy who has been "burned" (ex-communicated by the agency), is a refreshingly different take on the spy business. Michael has been burned, but he doesn't know why and he doesn't know who burned him. He got dumped off in his hometown of Miami with all of his accounts frozen and the Feds tailing him. He desperately wants to clear his name, but has no money, no clues, and a blacklisted reputation.

USA Network has officially ordered a new cop drama entitled Burn Notice, which is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, June 28 at 10/9c.
Burn Notice follows a spy who gets a “burn notice,” an official statement released by an intelligence agency to other agencies that he is unreliable. Determined to find out what caused his dismissal, he returns to his hometown only to discover that he is unable to utilize his contacts and resources. Now, he must use his special training to stay under the spy network radar and must find a way to fund his ongoing personal investigation.
