Articles for Bromance Season 1

The Hills alum and all-around reality television personality Brody Jenner is starring on a new reality competition series called Bromance set to premiere on MTV on December 29.  Bromance takes a bunch of guys from all over the country, hauls them to Hollywood for the chance to "befriend" Jenner and become a member of his entourage. Defined as a close but platonic relationship between two men, the concept of bromance was coined in the 1990s and crept into mainstream usage and pop culture with such friendships as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) and James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) on the Fox medical dramedy House, and, of course, Jenner and fellow The Hills regulars Justin Bobby and Spencer Pratt. Read more »
It‘s somewhat arbitrary that we start the new year in January.  On the ancient Roman and Julian calendars, the new year began when the new consuls took office in Rome.  This used to be in March, but eventually changed to January, and so that‘s when the year began.  When the Gregorian calendar was adopted in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII, January was merely kept as the start of the year because that‘s how it was on the previous calendar.  (Big ups to my guys over at Wikipedia for that information.)  For television, we like to assign some sort of meaning to the arrival of the new year, but usually there is none to give.  It‘s simply the midway point in the typical nine-month TV season.  Not anymore, however.  These days, with January comes the real TV season.  September through December? Just a warm-up.  Meaningless.  A trifle.  American Idol, Lost, 24. That‘s what January brings. (Also, the return of our favorite fall programs – Supernatural fans, bear with me. I‘ve got something for you a bit later.)  Read more »
Perhaps best known for his appearance on MTV‘s The Hills, Brody Jenner will finally name the winner of his reality series Bromance after six installments. Brody‘s search for “bromance,” which he defines as “a bond between you and your go-to guy,” started on December 29, 2008 with nine men competing in challenges in an effort to become his close friend. Last week, the contestants got a taste of Hollywood – Brody Jenner-style – when he committed the ultimate bro crime and deceived them.  The remaining four guys thought that they were going to help him market his new jean company as Brody used fake designers, make-up artists, and paparazzi to make it seem like a genuine red carpet gala.  Unbeknownst to them, Brody just wanted to see how well the guys could handle themselves in the limelight.  By the end of the episode, it got down to Luke and Alex.  And since Luke stayed strong the whole competition, Brody decided to send Alex home. Read more »
Luke Verge has earned the ultimate bragging rights on MTV‘s Bromance as he was named winner of competitive reality series last night.  The self-described party animal was one of the nine guys that competed for Brody Jenner‘s friendship, as well as keys to a luxury downtown L.A. bachelor pad and a brand-new Toyota Scion, in the six-episode series. In the final episode of Bromance, the competition was still tight between Chris, Femi and Luke but the arrival of Brody‘s mom Linda made it even more difficult.  The boys had to vacuum, wash dishes and even mop the sink after Brody instructed them to make the Bro Mansion spotless in preparation for his mom, who had set up a lie detector test for the remaining hopefuls. Read more »
