Previously on Boston Legal: Best friends and colleagues Alan Shore and Denny Crane celebrated their induction into the Auxiliary Coast Guard last season, but got into possibly the biggest disagreement of their friendship when Alan took on the case to help a small town secede from the Union, an act which Denny takes to be no less than treason.

The final season of David E. Kelley's Emmy Award-winning series Boston Legal will begin its run with an episode titled “Smoke Signals.”
“Smoke Signals” will take audiences to a different scene, when the firm of Crane, Poole and Schmidt tackles the tobacco industry. This will be the 89th episode of the series, following last season's “Patriot Acts.” We were left with Alan (James Spader) and Denny (William Shatner) celebrating their acceptance to the Auxiliary Coast Guard. We next see them this season defending a client whose father smoked cigarettes and died from lung cancer. The tension between Denny and Alan surfaces even more, even in the smallest of acts in the trial. Another surprise character from Alan's past appears in the episode as well.

Denny Crane and Alan Shore have always been close friends despite their great political differences, conflicting ideologies and questionable courtroom strategies. Throughout Boston Legal, the two almost always share a scene enjoying a cigar and a glass of Scotch on the balcony of the law firm, talking over the events that had happened at the end of the episode. On the next episode, however, that just might not be the case.
It's Denny versus Alan on the season ender of Boston Legal tonight at 10/9c on ABC.

Boston Legal may have been renewed for another season but that doesn't mean that ABC will run the legal dramedy for a long time. The network has just decided that the show's fifth season will also be its last.
According to ABC president Steve McPherson, Boston Legal will bow out with a 13-episode run in the fall, which will push the show just past the 100-episode mark.

ABC, the number two network in all the land (and only behind FOX because of the Super Bowl and American Idol), had its upfront presentation early this morning. The network unveiled its Fall schedule, and it's pretty hard to get excited about it. Nothing against ABC – the schedule is good, probably the best, top to bottom, of any network – it's just that there weren't many openings this time around. Last season ABC launched eight new shows in the Fall, the most of any network. For the most part, ABC hit a homerun with Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, Samantha Who?, and Eli Stone in the mid-season.
Networks rarely have so many returning second-year shows. Because of this, ABC had very little work to do this pilot season. There are only two new shows on the Fall schedule, with two more targeted for the mid-season. Continue reading for a detailed description of the schedule and new shows.

While many networks might be in trouble next Fall due to the writers' strike shrinking the new pilot season, ABC is looking quite good. It has a solid stable of returning favorites (Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives), hit reality shows (The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars) and a solid 2007 freshman class that will return for sophomore seasons (Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, Samantha Who?). This doesn't leave much room for new or bubble shows, so this season ABC is cleaning out its closet, dumping a lot of iffy shows while picking up a few gems from other networks.

Men In Trees has been canceled. The Anne Heche-led series has had its fair share of ups and downs over its short life. It has had its moments (especially when placed after Grey's Anatomy on the schedule) but Men In Trees turned into one of those shows that suffered from schizophrenic scheduling, ABC moving it all around its prime time landscape, as well as keeping it off the air for long stretches of time. Now, it is gone for good. The Hollywood Reporter took a look at a number of so-called “on the bubble” shows today and their conclusions are somewhat surprising. Keep reading to find out the possible (probable, maybe) fates of Reaper, Moonlight, Boston Legal and more.

Last week on Boston Legal, we saw Episode 4.18, "The Court Supreme," which followed Alan Shore (James Spader) as he presented an appeal to the Supreme Court regarding a mentally challenged man who was unfortunately convicted of statutory rape. Lorraine Weller (Saffron Burrows) on the other hand, approached Katie Lloyd (Tara Summers) with unexpected news about Jerry Espenson's (Christian Clemenson) girlfriend. In tonight's episode, we'll be seeing more of the Legal crew as Denny Crane (William Shatner) does something very unexpected.
Boston Legal's Episode 4.19, entitled "Indecent Proposals" will air tonight in its new timeslot at 10pm. Read on to see what's to come in tonight's episode.
