Porn Unpleasantness and Bad Names: 'Big Brother' Finale Aftermath

April 29, 2008

Big Brother 9 has ended, and now the house guests have been released into the real world.  That means they have to be accountable for their actions and answer questions.  The media has had an obvious target in Crazy James who, it was discovered, dabbled in the seedy world of gay porn prior to entering the Big Brother house.  Also, the winner of Big Brother 9, Adam Jasinski, had to respond to his unfortunate “retard” comment early in the Big Brother season.  According to Adam's former employer back when the comments were made, the Big Baller was probably not going to be welcomed back to his job.  Of course, they did not anticipate Adam winning the $500,000 and have since backed off their hard stance a little bit.  As for James, when confronted about his porn past, he responded in a reasonable and level-headed manner.

Exclusive Interview: 'Big Brother 9' Winner Adam Jasinski

April 28, 2008

Big Brother 9's Adam did not enter the Big Brother house looking like a possible winner.  In fact, if it wasn't for Jacob's ridiculous behavior he and former Penthouse Pet Sheila probably would have been kicked to the curb in week one.  But, Big Baller persevered on Big Brother, making friends with most everyone in the house.  His bizarrely infectious personality is what won it for him in the end, as he took home the $500,000 grand prize on the Big Brother 9 finale last night.  Adam took some time out of his now-hectic schedule to speak with us today about his time inside the Big Brother house, how he really feels about Sheila and what he plans to do with his winnings.

Below you will find both the written transcript and full mp3 audio of the interview.

Big Brother 9: Finale Recap

April 27, 2008

Big Brother 9 is over.  I feel like a gigantic orangutan has leaped off my back.  Not to pile on about Big Brother 9, but there is a certain viewer fatigue that sets in once you realize that none of your favorite house guests will win the half million dollars.  What this season lacked (for me, at least) was a clear protagonist and antagonist.  Everyone was sort of in the middle.  Either they were vaguely likable, or they were forgettably evil.  Mostly, they were just people being themselves, which is the problem.  The best characters in Big Brother history were just that – characters.  They put on a specific persona outside of who they actually are (think Dr. Will and Evel Dick).  Tonight's finale was a typical affair, mostly devoid of unnecessary filler.

Big Brother 9: Finale, Live Results

April 27, 2008

Big Brother 9.  It ends tonight.  Will it be the big, red-haired lug who wins the $500,000?  Or, will it be the big, dark-haired lug?  Ryan and Adam will either be voted for or against by the seven jury members tonight, but only after each of the jury members grills the final two.  Julie Chen will awkwardly preside over the festivities, in what will be a rather anti-climactic finale.  None of these two finalists are particularly lovable or despicable - they're likable guys with some flaws.  There's no evil house guest to root against - no Dr. Will, no Dick Donato.  But, we take what we can get.  Big Brother 9 finale - I'll be here live throughout the episode giving updates as the votes come in.

Big Brother 9: Who Will Win - Ryan or Adam?

April 25, 2008

Big Brother 9 ends on Sunday with a jury vote.  Jury votes for Big Brother are easier to figure out than jury votes for CBS's other big reality franchise Survivor.  On Big Brother, we are privy to every second of action and interaction inside the Big Brother house, thanks to the diligent work of live feed watchers.  On Survivor, I constantly find myself surprised by how people end up voting, but I shouldn't – editing can twist the motivations and true feelings of everyone in the game.  This season, I have a pretty good idea of who will vote for Ryan and who will vote for Adam, but you can never be entirely sure.  For instance, the three non-Team Christ members inside the Jury House could really go either way.  Regardless, let's give it a shot – here's how I see the final vote going down.

Big Brother 9: Examining Ryan's Foolishness

April 24, 2008

What the hell is Ryan doing?  One thing that bothers me about reality shows like Survivor and Big Brother (and something that, perhaps, makes me a bad person) is the insistence that some contestants have on remaining loyal.  You entered whichever game you're playing to win life-changing money – why in the world would you jeopardize such a massive payday to keep a new friend happy?  Ryan has twice now made embarrassingly poor decisions to keep his boy Adam content, rewarding him for perceived loyalty.  This is no way to play Big Brother.  He couldn't possibly believe that he has a better chance with the jury against Adam than he would against Sheila, or even Sharon.  There were various points throughout the Big Brother season where Ryan's decisions baffled me – either they were extremely wise or totally inexplicable.  Right now, I'm leaning towards the latter.

Big Brother 9: Final Week Head of Household, Eviction Recap

April 23, 2008

Not a lot plotting and scheming tonight on the second-to-last episode of Big Brother 9.  It was all about the competitions.  All three parts of the final Head of Household competition were aired, and the Big Brother house was trimmed down to our final two house guests.  The results were not surprising.  An interesting thing happened in tonight's mostly live Big Brother Julie Chen had to fill more time then, I'm sure, she had anticipated.  Maybe the producers thought that part three of the live Head of Household competition would last longer than it did, maybe it was just poor planning.  As a result, viewers were treated to an exceptionally awkward and elongated interview between Julie and the evicted house guest that proved how inept Julie Chen is at her job.  Give me Probst, give me Keoghan.  Hell, give me Bergeron.  I'd even take Adrianna Costa, if only for aesthetic reasons.
