'Army Wives' Creator Relieved of Duty

army wivesKatherine Fugate, the creator of Lifetime's groundbreaking hit series Army Wives, has just been discharged, according to Entertainment Weekly.  Although the reason for her departure has not been disclosed, rumors of behind-the-scenes tension between Fugate and the show's corporate spouses, Lifetime and ABC Studios, have been buzzing since the beginning.  In fact, the military drama has endured three show-runner changes in its two years on the air.  The most recent adjustment came when Dee Johnson was let go and replaced by Nick Thiel.

Lots of Tears for 'Army Wives' Special Screening

Army WivesPreviously, we reported that Army Wives hosted a red carpet event and a special advanced screening of one of its episodes to recognize the courage of the inspiration behind the highly successful Lifetime series: the real army wives.  Associated Press reports that tears flowed freely when two of the TV version of Army Wives met the real-life counterpart of the strong women they portray.

Sally Pressman, who plays Roxy, and Brigid Brannagh, who plays Pamela, watched an upcoming episode with real army wives at a Washington, D.C., hospital.  An event Pressman called “life-changing.”

'Army Wives' Gets Early Renewal for Third Season

Army WivesWith just over a month into its second season, Lifetime's popular drama Army Wives is set to at least have a third installment, thanks to record-setting ratings and constant raves about the casting and its actors.  Lifetime Networks President and CEO Andrea Wong made this announcement at the TCA Press Tour, July 11.

"Since premiering last year,” said Wong, “'Army Wives' has become a game-changer for Lifetime.  Announcing this early renewal is a testament to the enormous faith and confidence we have in this show and its incredibly talented cast and production team.  Army Wives exemplifies what Lifetime is all about -- friendship, compassion, humor and heart.  We are very proud of both its water cooler resonance and its success."

Marsha Mason to Guest on 'Army Wives'

MasonClaudia Joy Holden, the general's wife on Army Wives, will get an unexpected visitor in Fort Marshall in Charleston, South Carolina. It's not just any person, it is none other than her socialite mother, Charlotte Meade.  TV Guide reports that four-time Oscar nominee Marsha Mason will guest as Holden's (Kim Delaney) distant mom in at least two episodes slated in mid-August.

Yet as things stand, it's highly possible that this is not going to be a happy reunion for both parties.  The society mom is supposedly harboring a less than pleasant agenda with her coming.

'Army Wives' to Honor Real Army Wives

Army Wives castTo kick off the July 4th week and festivities, the Lifetime hit drama series Army Wives will host a red carpet event plus an advanced screening of an upcoming episode to recognize and honor the inspiration behind the show, the true-to-life army wives.  The event, which will take place at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. on July 1, is scheduled to begin with a red carpet ceremony, immediately followed by the reception and screening.

The attendees include several Army Wives cast member, including Sally Pressman, Tanya Biank, author of the book that inspired the show, senior representatives from the military and their families, Lee Woodruff, wife of ABC anchor Bob Woodruff who was injured in Iraq, representatives from military aid organizations, and the guests of honor, real army wives and their families.

Army Wives: Season 1 DVD Now Available

army wivesSally Pressman has stretched her acting skills in the drama telepic Love Sick: Secrets of a Sex Addict, as well as on shows like The New Adventures of Old Christine and Criminal Minds. But that's nothing compared with her character Roxy's emotional roller-coaster ride on Lifetime's groundbreaking series Army Wives.

After seeing last season's explosive cliffhanger and this season's incredibly emotional premiere, fans can expect some major changes in store for Pressman's character on Army Wives.
