FOX's Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? has branched beyond the television screen once again, entering the world of mobile gaming. Early this month, Capcom Interactive, together with FOX Mobile Entertainment, announced the mobile game version of the hit show, coinciding with the premiere of its highly-anticipated second season.
"Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? for mobile is the perfect opportunity to entertain the whole family while on the go," Fox Mobile Entertainment Senior Vice President Mitch Feinman said in a press release.

FOX's Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? quizzes adults on elementary level school subjects, and while this task may seem like a walk in the park, many contestants have lost the chance to win one million dollars -- or even a fraction thereof -- for failing to answer basic elementary level questions, surprising not only the contestants themselves and viewers, but also Olivia, one of the students featured on the show.
“Sometimes I'm just like, ‘Wow!'” she told the Chicago Sun-Times, before adding that there are times she feels rather sympathetic when a contestant is stumped by a question. “But other times, I'm like, ‘Well, maybe I wouldn't remember that,' so I do have a little sympathy.

Last week, down at the FOX Fall press junket, I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing the new crop of 5th graders from FOX's Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader. Since last year's fifth graders have now moved on to sixth grade, FOX needed a new batch of young minds to humiliate grown-ups and serve as a clear example that you get dumber as you get older. The fifth graders seemed fairly ecstatic to be making the press rounds and were certainly the most enthusiastic interview subjects I talked to during my time in Los Angeles. The five students are Nathan, Mackenzie, Sierra, Cody and Olivia.
Below you will find the full mp3 audio of the raucous interview.

Never mind glitzy, glamorous, star-studded and A-list events such as the Grammys and the Oscars. For Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? host, Jeff Foxworthy, he'd gladly pass those up over a couple of events he considers of greater appeal – hunting and fishing.
"It just drives my wife crazy," Foxworthy said laughing. "She goes, 'We get invited to the Oscars. You turn that down. We get invited to the Grammys. You turn that down. But you never turn down a hunting or fishing trip.' I always explain, 'Well, if I have my choice of putting on a tuxedo and going out to L.A. and sitting around with people I have nothing in common with, or going out to Kansas to hunt a monster whitetail…uh…it's not much of a chin-scratcher.'"

Now that Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? has been turned into a computer game by THQ or Toy Headquarters, how much more interactive can the cerebral challenge show get? The answer is a marriage between computer technology and television.
JAKKS Pacific, Inc. announced last week that it has acquired the license from Mark Burnett Productions to develop Plug It In & Play TV Games products of its popular quiz show. Plug It In & Play TV Games are systems loaded with several modules housed in just one controller that plugs directly into the A/V outlets of standard televisions.

The game, which THQ launched on August 28, features authentic commentary from show host Jeff Foxworthy (The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Reno 911!) and delivers all of the classmate peer pressure and wisecracks that viewers have come to love.

Well, they're all going back to school on national television. When Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? returns with its Celebrity Edition, a number of famous personalities will test their brain power for the benefit of various charitable causes.
