Tina Sloan, who was born on February 1, 1943 in Bronxville, New York, is best known for her role of Lillian Raines on Guiding Light. She was educated at Ursuline School and Manhattanville College and moved on to acting with Bob McAndrew and Warren Robertson. Studying acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, she has had various roles on daytime dramas, but has also had a prolific film career.
Tina Sloan appeared in Woody Allen films such as Celebrity in 1998 and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion in 2001. Her other film credits include Changing Lanes, The Guru and People I Know, all of them released in 2002. On television, she began her rise to fame when she got the part of Kate Thornton Cannell on the soap Somerset. Her other guest roles were in Wide World Mystery, Search for Tomorrow, Another World and Third Watch. In 2003, she appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, on the episode titled “Privilege.” Sloan later worked on the short film Well Fed and Comfortable, written and directed by Lou Howe. In 2007, she landed a small role in the blockbuster The Brave One, starring Jodie Foster, Terrence Howard, Nicky Katt and Naveen Andrews. In 2008, she celebrated her 25th year as a cast member of CBS’ Guiding Light. She was honored in Soap Opera Digest’s July 22 issue. Another thing she is known for is having the distinction of being the first woman on daytime TV history to have her mammogram on air. This was for Lillian Raines, her character’s storyline.
Aside from acting, Sloan enjoys marathon running, mountain climbing and traveling. She also claims that her most prized possession is a gift from her son on her 49th birthday. It was a list of “The 49 Reasons Tina Sloan is the Best Mom Ever.” She also says that her father is the world’s greatest hero.
