Son of actor Jim Hutton (a.k.a. Dana J. Hutton) and Maryline Poole Adams, Timothy Hutton was born on August 16, 1960 in Malibu, California. He attended Fairfax High School and Berkeley High School. In 1965, he made his acting debut alongside his father on the film Never Too Late.
Timothy Hutton has appeared on numerous films and television shows, and is famed for winning an Academy Award, two Golden Globes (Supporting Actor and New Star of the Year), Los Angeles Film Critics' award and Kansas City Film Critics Circle's award for his performance in Robert Redford's 1980 film Ordinary People. He served as executive producer and has directed for television films based on Rex Stout's novels. He began his career with roles on TV movies, some of them being Zuma Beach, Friendly Fire, And Baby Makes Six, The Oldest Living Graduate and Sultan and the Rock Star. He rose to fame during the 1980s, working on feature films like Taps, Daniel, Iceman, The Falcon and the Snowman, Made in Heaven and A Time of Destiny. He has also portrayed F. Scott Fitzgerald on the TV film Zelda, directed by Pat O’Connor and starring Natasha Richardson.
Hutton later gained fame playing Willie Conway in Beautiful Girls, Raymond Blossom in Playing God and Col. William Kent on The General’s Daughter. He is also known for portraying Archie Goodwin on several episodes of A Nero Wolfe Mystery. In 2004, he was cast as Ted Milner on Secret Window, working alongside Johnny Depp, John Turturro and Maria Bello. He later had a role on Kinsey, Last Holiday, Stephanie Daley and The Last Mimzy. From 2006 to 2007, he starred in the NBC action/adventure drama Kidnapped, playing Conrad Cain. He was soon cast on the series Leverage, as Nate Ford. Hutton has also been credited for his work in The Alphabet Killer, Reflections and the drama Multiple Sarcasms. He has also signed on to work in Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, a project by The Office star, John Krasinski.
Hutton has been married twice. His first wife was actress Debra Winger, and they have a son named Noah. In 2000, Hutton married illustrator Aurore Giscard d’Estaing, and their son Milo was born in 2001.
