Biography

American actor and comedian Tim Meadows was born on February 5, 1961 in Highland Park, Michigan. A graduate of Wayne State University, he started his career as a member of the famed Chicago-based comedy troupe The Second City. His biggest break came in 1991, when he joined the cast of the long-running late night comedy show Saturday Night Live, where he would stay for the next nine years.

Meadows was known for his many celebrity impressions and original characters. During his stay in the show, however, he became perhaps most popular for playing the character Leon Phelps, self-packaged as “The Ladies’ Man.” The horny host of a talk show, he believes that he is the epitome of what females are looking for in a man; in light of this, he gives sexual advice to those who call his show. This sketch was one of the few films to be spun off to its own movie, The Ladies Man, which was released in 2000. However, both critics and fans panned the film and it flopped in the box office.

After his departure from Saturday Night Live, Meadows took on other projects on television and film. His first regular post?-SNL role was in the comedy The Michael Richards Show, which was cancelled because of poor ratings. Two years later, he starred in another sitcom, Leap of Faith, which was more successful in the ratings, but was cancelled anyway after six episodes. His next regular role was in the 2007 sitcom The Bill Engvall Show, where he played one of the lead character’s (Bill Engvall) best friends who owns a hair transplant clinic.

Meadows also continued to star in several films, appearing in features such as Mean Girls, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Semi-Pro and The Benchwarmers. He also continued to perform stand-up routines, appearing often at the iO West in Los Angeles, staging an improv show with Heather Campbell and Miles Stroth.
