Oprah Shares Her Excitement for the New President

November 5, 2008

Oprah Winfrey has always been an avid supporter of Barack Obama.  For the first time, she exerted political influence and publicly endorsed him in the 2008 presidential election.  She even held a fundraiser for him at her Santa Barbara, California, estate last September and in December that same year, joined Obama in a series of rallies in the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

During Obama's moving acceptance speech at Denver's 2008 Democratic National Convention, Winfrey, host of the multiple award-wining program The Oprah Winfrey Show, told The Associated Press that she cried her eyelashes off as she watched the first African-American to be elected by a major American political party for President.

Oprah Winfrey Tops Forbes List of Most Powerful Celebrities

June 12, 2008

It should come as no surprise that Forbes magazine named Oprah Winfrey its most powerful celebrity.  After all, last year, she banked an unbelievable $275 million.  Though ratings for her talk show have slowly declined, Oprah is smart enough to pursue other business ventures to ensure her success.  Next year, she'll unveil The Oprah Winfrey Network, which is partnered with Discovery Communications.  She has a 3 year, $55 million deal with XM Radio and her Harpo production company is responsible for the success of The Dr. Phil Show and The Rachael Ray Show.  Tiger Woods, Angelina Jolie, Beyonce Knowles, and David Beckham rounded out the top 5.  This year, tweens made a strong showing on the list, especially those that hail from The Disney Channel.
