Will Garner (Josh Charles) is a partner at a prestigious Chicago law firm and an old friend of Alicia's (Julianna Margulies) from law school on the television series "The Good Wife". Will is attracted to Alicia and wants more than her friendship as the first season of the show progresses. He gave Alicia her former job back when nobody else would after the scandal about her husband, former State's Attorney of Cook County broke. Will argues a lot with Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), a senior partner at the law firm who has strong opinions on many issues, including Alicia's capabilities as an attorney.
Will and Alicia shared a passionate kiss before she ran away in the episode "Heart." Later, when they discussed the kiss, Alicia asks him not to hate her for being unable to pursue a relationship. Hearing those words, Will replies: "It's fine. We have bad timing. We've always had... bad timing." In the second season, Will leaves a voice mail for Alicia, on her cell phone, saying "I love you", but she never hears it, because her husband's campaign manager Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) deletes it.
"A map, so I can show you where you live. That, my friend, was a Chicago defense. Get used to it."
"I understand that, Your Honor, but we both know if you don't use the proper form of 'sustained' or 'overruled', the matter can't later be appealed. And I was surprised in reviewing your past court cases, how often you encouraged lawyers to move on without actually ruling, therefore avoided having your non rulings overturned on appeal. In my opinion."
