Biography

Status Quo is an all male dance crew from Boston, Massachusetts.  The team is composed of six crew members.  Their dance techniques are a combination of hip hop, break dancing, krub, tap and gymnastics.  They have performed in several hometown competitions and were named champions in the Annual Beantown Big Bounce competition for two consecutive years.

Joshua Green

Twenty-year-old Joshua “Flex” Green is from Boston, Massachusetts.  He started dancing during his younger days and hasn’t stopped since.  For the meantime, his sole focus is only for the dance floor.  Letting go of school and work, he places all his concentration on training and dancing.  He also enjoys other activities like flipping and skating.  He expects that his Dance Crew experience will help him better himself and teach him to work well with others.  Green’s best friend Amina Owens is his dancing idol.  He also looks up to the dancing skills of Usher, Raymond and James Brown.

Ernest Phillips

Ernest “E-Knock” Phillips started dancing as early as three-years-old.  This 21-year-old works as a dance teacher to make ends meet.  Aside from dancing, his other talents are acting and rapping.  Phillips also has a fetish for food.  He idolizes Michael Jackson and Ernest Phillips but it is his grandmother who inspires him the most.  Another interesting detail about this guy is that he is a master at making show mixes.  He proudly shares that he can make a show mix out of nothing.  His favorite fellow Dance Crew member is Jin for his own flow in dancing.  By being on the show, Phillips hopes to make the world see his talents and skills as a dancer.

Jayjion Greer

Eighteen-year-old Jayjion “Jin Leo” Greer didn’t think about being a dancer before.  He was just doing his job as a camera man for Status Quo when he was suddenly asked if he wanted to dance.  He gave it a try and the rest is history.  His overall idol is not really a dancer, but Greer looks up to him anyway because he’s none other that Jet Li.  Aside from dancing, Greer spends his vacant time by enjoying various activities like free running, writing scripts and playing video games.  Greer has not yet given up on his dream of producing movies, and still wants to become a film director in the future.

Jamal Weaver

Jamal “Mally Mal” Weaver started his dancing career at the age of seven.  He danced for family events in Atlanta, Georgia.  Now at 20, he teaches a youth dance group in Brockton and also works at Dick's Sporting Goods.  Weaver plans to double major in vocal performance and music production at the Berklee College of Music.  Aside from dancing, he is also active in acting and singing R&B, hip-hop and even classical songs.  His dancing idols are Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Usher and James Brown.  His source of inspiration comes from his little brother Dante, who already passed away.  According to Weaver, Dante was the first person who told him to do what he wanted to, no matter what anyone said.  Dante is the reason why Weaver still dances today.

Dwayne Hines

Eighteen-year-old Dwayne “Weeze” Hines started dancing under two years ago, under the influence of his friends.  The constant prodding did work and now, Hines just simply loves the dance floor.  He manages his daily schedule between attending high school and rehearsing and dancing for Status Quo.  In his spare time, he also enjoys playing basketball.  He admires Chris Brown, Omarion, Michael Jackson, Tight Eyes and his dance members.  Hines’ friends are all gang members, and he keeps on dancing so that he can teach the skills and techniques to his own circle of peers.  By being on Dance Crew, Hines hopes to gain more confidence in his self.

Darvis Rutledge

Darvis “Sauce” Rutledge started dancing immediately after watching the performances of Omarion, Ginuwine and Michael Jackson.  Omarion inspires him because they have the same style.  He hopes to follow his footstep, that’s why Rutledge is in L.A. today.  This 21-year-old also enjoys singing, playing ball and drawing.  Rutledge is also skilled in cutting hair.  Aside from the three mentioned above, he also admires the dancing skills of Chris Brown, Sisqo and Marques Houston.  Rutledge is expecting his first baby in three months, and is definitely excited to be a dad.  People notice him and praise him for looking like Hot Sauce, playing ball like Iverson and sounding like Trey Songz.

Status Quo is a finalist for MTV’s 2008 reality talent search Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew; where hip-hop dance groups from all over US compete for the prize money and for the opportunity to be given a touring contract.
